My first deal so be nice... (Sorry had to say it)
I was browsing the PCWorld website and noticed this deal. At this price it stood out amongst the others, mainly because of the 6GB of Ram and 500GB Hard drive.

The RAM and the hard drive are two items you can upgrade in a laptop so I would go for the fastest processor I can afford but thanks anyway.

TBH, I just thought this was a joke. oO
I know the processor isn't the best, however this laptop will be fine for casual users, offering still plenty of RAM and a decent sized Hard drive at about £70 more than a netbook...
Average deal

AMD Dual-Core Processor E-350
- 1.6 GHz
- 1 MB L2 Cache

Sluggish processor with loads of RAM and fair HD capacity.

Definitely the worst post ever!
Just noticed it supposedly also has a 5 1/2 battery life
What a weird combo, awful CPU coupled with a decent (OTT maybe) amount of RAM, and large HDD.

Why on earth did they put this CPU in a laptop, can understand putting it in a netbook.

Not as bad as this one:

For most users this would be quite an acceptable machine for the price, especially bearing in mind the potential battery life.

I think this would great to run linux on (backtrack5) and go wardriving ;with a great battery life.

voted hot very hot.

Pluun

TBH, I just thought this was a joke. oO

lol, only Pluun (EDIT: and 7iain7) understands me, i voted it hot but its amusing to see how irate you all get lol, just fun picking on noobs lol, i actually got a PM courtesy of that post lol

@Whelpin surely with all your experience you must know heat actually means nothing on here? im happy to post stuff knowing full well it will go cold

this is an awful processor for a laptop - am struggling to think of what sort of laod would need 6GB of RAM yet be happy with a E-350 CPU !??
I'll pass on this one
Don't be sucked in by the amount of RAM and HDD space. This laptop has an average CPU which can't be replaced so it's worth buying a machine with a faster CPU and less RAM/HDD space and upgrading those later.

Processor ruins it badly.

A 1.6ghz amd dual core is painfully slow, my Mum has a 1.8 dual core AMD and it is just horrible.

Apples and Oranges. You can't compare processor speeds unless you're comparing the same type of processor. I have a 1.6Ghz i7 and it's much faster than a 3Ghz P4. AMD don't make a 1.8Ghz E series.

As mentioned before, this is net-top/netbook hardware, not laptop hardware. Generally you'll want to avoid it.

OK but the processor is still ****.
So far pretty much everyone has slated it, but no one has actually pointed out a model that is better in a similar price range.

In my view, for anyone using office and internet and facebook, this is more than adequate!

compared to what in a similar price range?
That amount is not even slightly needed. RAM is cheap these days and trying to make this laptop sound good by putting in loads of RAM which is not needed.

anyone else having trouble ordering?
Great find, thanks, put xp on this and it will fly!
Guys I need a laptop BADLY. Budget of £300 max, do you think this is the best for me ( I would like one with office as well ) I brought a laptop last year of ebay and its dead...whats the best one I can get for a student like me for £300 max...anyone, would love some feedback guys. Cheers
To be fair, probably less than 10% of laptop users will ever push them to their limits. Good deal for the price.
This deal is a cold one because it is trying to make you think your getting a good deal . The cpu is fine in the segment between netbook and laptop so the lenevo s205 for instance is the right place for the cpu . But not in a 15" or 17" laptop where you expect decent performance.

Coming back to the deal in question, 6gb of ram and the 500gb hdd. 6gb is a decent amount of memroy but i wouldn't want more than 4gb in a e350 based machine .. Same for the 500gb hdd ..

Both are in there to headline grab and this is what happend with the op .. and it worked but its also a fail because its the wrong cpu in the wrong laptop with too much ram.
Heat added
How has this hit 200 degrees? Shop around there are much better deals and ignore the Ram it means absolutely nothing.

don't get it?

Please show us
I bought one of these from ebay pc world about 3 months ago for £259, processor performs well and laptop is gernerally very good. Am tempted to get my dad one for xmas now it's cheap again.

Only downside for me was no built in bluetooth so can't use my external bluetooth speakers without a dongle

Although has Onkyo speakers built in (some un heard of brand) which are very good for a laptop
