Toshiba Satellite C50D-B Laptop - £199 at Tesco

This seems to be a good price for a budget laptop with a usable spec. The Toshiba C50D-B won't set the world alight, but had received generally good reviews all round. At this price from Tesco, it's cheaper than some refurbs on ebay and considerably cheaper than other retailers currently. Worth a look?

shocking processor 8 year old machine can beat it just do a passmark on processor
Awful processor as pointed out above. Those refurb i5 laptops will wipe the floor with this.
Seems expensive for what it is. Deals have been posted for about £250 for an I3, 8GB of RAM Lenovo and Pentium based Lenovo for £229.
This CPU gets around 800 on passmark:

Anything better at a similar price point that isn't a refurb? Wondering if the lenovo may be better for an extra £30?

although that sounds fine, I'll not be touching Lenogo again, bought y son one and he's had 2 hard drive failures in 6 months, utter cacanana, Partners has also just given up the ghost 1 year & 10 days after purchase. POS.
If you have a working old computer or tablet you could get a much better HP Probook for less than this after the £200 trade in

There is more to processors than the passmark score. For example someone only browsing and doing occasional offices stuff might find this ok. My point is that if you put an ssd in it these amd e processors are whisper quiet, fan just goes off.

Still I believe you should spend more, you would get a vastly better experience...

If you look at processors like Celeron N2840 they have passmark score of about 1000 and are pretty new...
i would try to get a ivybridge m processor those have around 3000 passmark

I have the celeron and I regret buying it now , should've went with an older better performing cpu , i mean if you value silence and low heat then a celeron /atom/ one of these would be a good buy.

Could you point me in the right direction for this deal please. Thanks.
I wouldn't touch this computer at all- AMD- a lot of heat generated and it generally offers shocking performance, especially this one. This laptop will struggle to last you 2 years.

Try a chromebook or HP Stream if you're only wanting to do basic tasks- and- let's be honest, you are if you are considering this. I have a HP Stream and find it flies with everything I throw at it, obviously I don't game on it but that's what desktops are for.

Business or schools only?
Oops, that's out of stock. But this one's better with an i3 and still works out under £200 after trade in and TCB: store.hp.com/UKS…NTB
Isn't the HP cash back business only?
Your garden shed probably has more processing power than this, Sorry I know it seems good value but you'd be either better paying a little more or perhaps buying a second hand/refurb etc.. It's like buying a car that only has a reverse gear.
shocking price considering the old technology inside! stay away from it
Bad laptop for the price.

You can pay a little bit more for i3.

Stick a 120GB SSD for £30 in there to solve your problem, I've got 2 Lenovo laptops and never had a problem with them.
If this is bad, can someone recommend me a laptop, max £200, that's avaliable from a bricks & mortar store? Got a lad from work asked me today to find him one but I'm not great with computer spec lol

I'm not completely up to date on hardware but I believe that the 'game' mentioning throws the budget way up high, it all depends on the kind of gaming she's into. You can spend thousands on laptops for gaming (although £800 would probably suffice - again, depending on the game).
