no HDMI, but still worth it i think, im still in towo minds. Just deciding if i need a laptop or not...

The core i3 is like the core 2 duo so ebtter then pentium. Card to find a laptop under 400 quid with that sort of cpu.
The RAM is 2GB but can be upgraded any time without the warrenty being void. and easy enough to do.

My old lappy just died and this looks a good deal but being widescreen they just look a bit too long - I'm leaning towards the Asus UL30A - lower cpu, no optical drive but lower price and more portable

C650-110 is £299.99 at Ebay DOTD (Seems better deal to me)

Ebay DOTD

2gb ram is no good for someone looking to last this for a good while. 3gb+ as a minimum

ram is cheap to upgrade
cpu is important

How much it will cost me to upgrade the ram

Horses for courses You gain the i3 with its slighly more powerful GMA graphics but loose 2GB ram.

I'd rather pay just a few quid more and get something with HDMI (or DVI) out

EDIT: can't see any indication as to whether the OS is 32 or 64 bit.

current ram should be in one slot making upgrade easier

this seems good atm...

What am I missing? Apart from the low end i3 CPU, the rest seems to be bog standard for a 15" lappy these days (I had a Samsung with an i3 330M, and it's a bit of a dog to be honest).
And those wanting to upgrade the memory to 4GB (or more) may be better off simply plumping for a lappy with 4GB to begin with, as this likely has 2 x 1GB DIMM's so you'll need to shell out for the full 4GB.

According to the Tosh specs it does come with Win7 64Bit, so if you do upgrade the RAM you will make the most of it.

im with you. got a brand new smasung similar to this, probably not as good processor but 4gb of ram for under £300

I think earlier deal with T3300 is better for money/performance consideration. Upgrading CPU is cheaper than buying 4GB of memory.

already said it has 1 2gb slot from spec

if you have read the toshiba spec you will see its 1 stick of 2gb there so you only need 1 stick more as i already said.

if its probably not as good a processor its not an icore, if its not an icore and has integrated graphics they are not as good either and likely the ram slower so overall (unless your unstated spec is much different to expected) you got a lesser machine for less?

Care to provide a source for this? I can only find comparisons between the two processors with the 330M coming out on top in benchmark tests?
notebookcheck.net/Mob…tml

Also, the cheapest i can find a p8600 for on the net is currently £54. you can get an extra 2gb of i3 ddr3 ram (not the outdated ddr2 the p8600 uses) for less than that. Add on top the fact that if you're changing the cpu yourself it's a load of hassle and manufacturers will possibly void the warranty. Oh, and also that its not possible to upgrade a core 2 duo to any of the newer intel i3/5/7 chips as it uses the old ram.

This is a great deal.

all I want to know is this good value for the money amazon are asking for it, I just need a machine to surf the net, the odd word document, skype and maybe even burn the odd cd and I am looking for a notebook not a netbook

It's good deal and solid buy at the price. I'd advise extending the warranty from 1-3 years (anytime within the first year) for £45:
uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/inn…rue

Alternatively get this one from Dabs.com
hotukdeals.com/dea…178
If you look at post 65 you can get it £50 cheaper than this i3 and the c650-110 will be fine for what you require. If you're not fussed about saving £50 then get this one....

Have to disagree with benchmarks on notebookcheck. I have quite a few CPUs (T1300, SU9300, T4300, T7300, T6400, P8600) and my benchmarks do no match what is posted there.
It's very unlikely that 2.13Ghz is faster than 2.4Ghz, even with new architecture. I would be more inclined to think that it's slower or about the same. P series is 25W and 330M is 35W, which is about 30% of your battery life.

You do not know which memory is in this laptop. DDR3 does not mean anything. DDR2 and DDR3 could be both at 800Mhz, and this point only latency would matter, which is also unknown.
Note: DDR3 at 1066 with 8 ns is slower than DDR2 at 800 with 4 ns.

I did not say it's a bad deal. I pointed out that previous one is better value for your money.

Core2 and i series CPUs are not compatible due different socket designs and has nothing to do with memory.

If you are after just a basic laptop and NOT a netbook then look here: pcchecker.co.uk/Com…ic/ as you can also filter based on the bits that are important to you.

thanks everyone for the info...still haven't clicked the buy on the Toshiba yet, so open to suggestions
