Product overview
Toshiba's Satellite L300-1FS is a great mid-point between price and performance. The laptop still delivers a range of features normally only found on higher end models, and offers respectable computing power. With a large, high resolution 15.4in widescreen (1280x800), this portable laptop has Toshiba's TruBrite technology for enhanced viewing.

The pacy Intel Dual Core, 2.16GHz chip keeps computing quick, while the 2GB of memory is enough for most computing tasks such as web browsing, document and spreadsheet creation, and playing multimedia. The 160GB hard drive gives you enough space for all your programs, and leaves plenty of extra space extra for media if you want to watch movies during your commute.

The laptop also features a full range of extras, such as WiFi and LAN to connect to networks or the internet, a VGA port for an external monitor, microphone and headphone jacks. Great for travel it also has an internal modem so you can connect to the internet through a phone line - ideal for access to email in regions with no broadband or WiFi. Also has a useful number of USB ports (three).

Integrated speakers let you watch movies, or listen to music on the go, while the integrated webcam and microphone let you chat online or video conference without needing a headset.

Another bonus is the DVD-RW drive, that also works on DVD double-layer discs, so you can back up huge amounts of data (about 8GB) to one disc.

Comes with Windows Vista Home Basic installed, and a one year guarantee applies.

from 9th september

an alleged £399 laptop with Vista basic...hmm me thinks its worth just £299 anyway. If I were to spend £400 on a laptop id expect Vista Premium, 3Gb RAM and a 250Gb hard drive.

This has been an offer at my local since Saturday atleast... Poor spec for the money imo. Celeron and Vista basic = pass.

You sure it is the same one. The one in this offer has a Pentium Dual Core T3400

I was in Sainsburys today and they had a Toshiba laptop on offer from £399 to £299.

But that model was the Toshiba L300 20W, details below (still not that great a spec)

.

I love how people seem to expect the world for peanuts. This is a great deal IMO. Point us in the direction of a comparable laptop in this price range if there is one.

Looks like a good deal for the money, voted hot

Voted HOT!!

A fast dual core laptop. I am still going to hang on until Windows 7 comes as standard in October. Then the price of the software will become absorbed into the laptop price. I am running it at present in the trial software until June 2010. It is what Vista should have been. I would never go back to vista. It actually slowed down my PC considerably. A great deal if you need a laptop now, but if you wait you may find far better in the next couple of months.

Actually the Toshiba web site says it has Vista Home Premium on it.

uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/inn…se/

Quite a few sites have "Vista Home Basic" in the headline, but "Vista Home Premium" in the description, like this site (also Amazon)

pricerunner.co.uk/pi/…nfo

I would trust the Toshiba site.
.

good deal

its the retailer which depicts what OS/software you get with the laptop

Good deal voted HOT from me. We'll be buying a laptop in the next month and this looks good for what we need but thinking we should wait until Windows 7 is out.

its the retailer which depicts what OS/software you get with the laptop

While that's sort of true, all model of the same laptop will come shipped in the same configuration regardless of retailer (true for all mainstream laptops except for Dell). A retailer may ask for a specific configuration which becomes a model the manufacturer then offers (either exclusively to that retailer or not). The specification does NOT change for the same model number across retailers.

Toshiba often have "OS confusion" - you can often find a laptop chasis with a Home Basic sticker but Premium actually installed on it.

this is still showing as £399 online so guess it's just instore even thou the OP has not replied to the 3 questions above :whistling:

glad i didnt add heat untill deal was confirmed.

Lately too many pre-warned deals have turned out to be non-existant.

Could be that it is insotre only and that OP had not replied to questions as they have not been nonline since, but i will vote when more info about the deal is given.

tried ringing my local store this morning, to see if they have them in stock and check ther price.
But the phone has not been answered.

OK I have just phoned my local store in Oxford(they don't normally do electricals) and it's £299. The guy is gonna phone my back with details of the windows7 upgrade ,He needs to ask his manager ,not holding my breath on that though:whistling:

Finally got through and just reserved one - if i pick it up soon. So thnx OP & rep given

Urmston, Salford and Sale dont know any thing about them. All of them said "is it the 299 one you want?" which always turned out to be the "20W" model which isn't that good.

I've checked Lincoln and they don't know anything either....Also rung Sainsbury's careline and they say it's the 20w not the L300-1FS

oh god. I feellike a numpty now.

When i rang, they just said to me it was £299 and when i asked for the model thye just told me that it was the only toshiba they had. This was at the castle vale store.

think you may have saved me a wasted trip. so thanks. But il try again and see if i can get the model no

Hi s_paul, this is why i posted my post because its confusing. Last night i thought i had got in a day before the reductions, i specifically asked if it was the 1FS and she said yes, it turned out to be the 20W and most stores are talking about the 20W it seems when they confirm its the 299 model. Think the OP has some explaining to do!

so... does this deal exist?

Seems this thread is the ideal example of why it is worth waiting to ensure the deal is actually available before voting hot.

the laptop shown in the deal is not on sale..the one which is 299 is this one
sainsburys.co.uk/sol…698

voted very cold as this has been for 299 in morrisons as well long before...

yep does not exist - went into another smaller store near my work and was told that the only on they had was the 20w. So think that this deal was fabricated.

Anyone know of any other good laptop deals. Need to buy one in the next few days.

Gutted. I reserved one and guess what it's the 20w. Is the 20w still a good deal @ 299

its not a deal at 299..been there for many weeks...even i am looking to buy a laptop with Intel Dual Core 2Ghz ,2Gb Ram & 160GB minimum around 300....anyone finds this spec pls post it here..
thx
