So, the "free" upgrade to Windows 7 costs £27? What a ripp-off. Where did you get this information from?

I bet all those people who bought their computers expecting a "small handling charge" feel really cheated now, since anyone can buy a full version of Windows 7 for £44.

A typical MS scam (if true).

No, Refurb doesn't mean that, it means it is second-hand, someone owned it but because it bust, it was sent back and they patched it up to flog off.

Besides, eBay posts are not allowed here anyway, even if they were new!

or its a customer return, that was then checked to see if it was working. Sometimes with refurbs you may find marks and/or scratches.

You are kidding yourself too.. bearing in mind you pay carriage for these returns, as well as it being a right job to sort out - packing, standing in queues or waiting in - just how many people send a fully working machine back! It is enough of a challenge sending one back that really is duff :-(
Most people do what I do... get a fault and bang it back, (who wants to mess on with a repair to a nearly new machine!) unless it is so bad a buy that it bears no relation to what you thought you were buying.

Hmmm... well I have one here right now and it works just fine, has no scratches and if i stand it next to my "new" identical Tosh which cost £100 more I cannot know which one is which. I think if you use a reputable seller like Argos then you are less likely to have issues. I had to load a new WLAN driver onto it to get Wirless working so maybe thats why it was returned. Maybe because I have enough intelligence to try and fix a simple driver issue, I won't have to stand in long queues...blah blah blah. Lucky me I guess. But then with a 240k review score of 99.6% on fleabay I guess this proves that in general this second hand tat is not really so bad.

Valid point about being able to problem solve. However with a laptop you have the added lottery of not knowing what the battery has suffered, and of course no-one warrants second-hand batteries, certainly not for very long!

Ebay Feedback is a strange thing - it relates to NOW, the time around receiving it... (if indeed it makes much sense at any time!) but you try adding it 6 months down the line, when it has packed up or the battery doesn't hold it's charge!
