Yes, but a complete bargain give it's power, screen etc. The Samsung Tocco was going for this much not long ago and this is leaps and bounds above it. H&R added. I'll be looking in my local Orange shop tomorrow

I read up on these, apparently there's loads of problems with them locking up and things. Any gen on latest firmware/wm version resolving the problems?

It's also HUGE. Far to big for me when I tied one...

If it's on clearance they'll be in most Orange stores, like the one's they cleared just before Christmas.

Can't you just purchase SPB shell to give a more user friendly interface.

anyone know if this can be easilt unlocked?

Don't know about easily, but it can be done.

checked review and made missus turn back as she was heading to pick one from local store. the review indicate it is not great phone so not much of bargain

This phone si wayyyyy too big. Its a horrible looking thing, good price and specs, but ugly as hell.

Someone find me a Touch Pro2 for this kind of price...

Please?

;-)

My father bought one today, updated it to Win 6.5 for him as soon as we got it (apparently many of the reviewers who gave this less than favouable than reviewss did so because of the inadequacies of 6.1) Check the official toshiba site for the 6.5 download.

Given the specs of the phone its an absolute bargain, but..... it is a big phone, and WinMo is such a dated mobile os. If I bought one I'd probably end up using it as a mini internet tablet around the house!

unless you hold it in yor hands ;-)

Bought this Christmas for 150, hot price

by the way there is would be official update WinMobile 7 for this pda.

Good if you want to tinker to get the most out of it (XDA Devs) but on what is clearly a prestige phone, a resistive touchscreen is a let down. I bought a Tmob Pulse instead and couldn't be happier I made that right choice.

Poor phone just too big

i think that the deal is not very ood and there is a lot of problems with the phones : l

me too - i so want one - on orange

Seems not such much a bargain but a bin discount

Looks nice but it's not multitouch so no WM7 upgrade for it. As far as I know you can't upgrade to 6.5 either.

It is a very big phone compared to other models that are currently on the market.

Unfortunately we bought far too many of these last autumn which is why you're seeing them reduced fairly cheapily in the retial stores. With the iPhone launching at the end of last year, it pretty much made this handset redundant at the original price.

I apologise, you've obviously got far more kowledge than me

There will definitley not be a Windows Phone 7 Series update for this device, its really is a very poor phone as it is but I cant say what its like with 6.5 but I wouldn't my breath.

Decent phone when it works properly and makes a good pda for the price alone but as much as i actually like winmo it does have some maddening issues like the keyboard wont come up at least once a day on me now requiring a reboot to get it going again. Seems ill have to do a hard reset and start again with it.
Put TomTom on it tonite and it made the lock button stop working after you turn the screen off so i couldnt turn it back on again which required pulling the battery to reboot to fix it. that said, WinMo is way more powerful than iphone so its just a matter of getting it going smoothly really, providing such a thing is actually possible with some devices.

obviously your argument is weak, proove me why this phone is poor. If your hands not grow out of your ass, you could make a great use of this pda, especially for this price.:whistling:

Your right, it wont be upgraded to Wndows phone 7 but the reason is that it doesnt meet the required specs that MS have recently layed out. As far as i can see the TG-01 lacks proper hardware keys, MS said all phones require 3 buttons which are windows/search/back or something like that, even the infamous HD2 doesnt fit the bill (that is epic, got one now :D). It also has resistive touch screen tech so doesnt fit the capacitive requirement.

However its not really that bad, resitive touch screens have their pros and cons just like capacitives, resi have the ability to use pointers and can be used with gloves on where as capacitive screens cant. I loved the screen on my LG renoir and that was resitive :P.

WM is awesome, i was expecting some shockingly bad OS judging by the reviews of WM but honestly i cant really fault it.. sure the UI isnt flashy and all that like Apples equivlant or android but it DOES THE JOB, well might i add. Its compatible with most things and hasnt let me down yet along with me prefering it to apples offering i think it does well (havent tried android yet).

Great price, voted hot.

TrustedReviews had a look at the TG01 with WM 6.5: trustedreviews.com/mob…/p1

They still didn't like it; however, much of their reasoning was that the price (£500 at the time) was similar to the superior HTC HD2.

What I would take from the review is to check the video of the OS in action - extremely smooth. Video playback should be great on this hardware.

Also, although I agree that Windows Mobile isn't the greatest OS out there, it does have a superb hacking scene and you shouldn't have too many problems flashing a new ROM on there that you are much happier with. Check out XDA Forums.

considering 2 of these for me and my boy

cpu speed is a big seller for me
also screen size

I own one and I'm very happy - sound quality isn't great but pound for pound excellent phone. Perhaps a better boys toy than a girls phone.

Microsoft have categorically stated that there will be *NO* update for any existing mobile phones to windows phone 7. If you look on the hardware sites like gizmodo and engadget it looks like microsoft are locking the new OS down to some very specific chassis options.

I bought one of these for £150, I was using an orange SPV M600 - this phone is much better in almost every repsect. The processor is fast enough to watch realtime iplayer on the bbc website over 3G, and the screen is great. WinMo 6.5 is a pretty big leap up from 6.1, and SPB mobile shell 3.5 makes it even better still.

Downsides for me are that the voice call quality is pretty bad - lots of people complain about it crackling or breaking when im speaking to them. There is no 3.5mm headphone socket (there is a mini usb adapter) and the battery life isnt great - lasts me about 2 days.

No phone at all can or ever will be upgradeable to WM7

And yes, there is a WM 6.5 upgrade for this on the toshiba website. Many of the new ones come with it preinstalled.

Poor phone. Sent 2 of these back to Orange both having same problems such as Calls dropping, people couldnt hear me, speaker crackling, didnt boot up quick enough when in hibernate so by the time i heard it ringing it already went to answerphone, really poor battery life (12 - 14 hours) on intermediate settings, god knows what it like on performance settings! Surprisingly though id probably still get one at that price as it does have some redeeming qualities

I bought one a couple of months back and am finally feeling at home with it. In summary:

+ Mine came with WinMob 6.5 installed, still definitely get spb Shell - I've found things quite stable
+ Nice screen, finger friendly (no need for stylus) and plays movies great (CorePlayer comes bundled)
+ Price, you will get nothing else that touches this for the money (also get an 8Mb micro SD included!)
+ Call quality is ok, I've not had the problems some seem to (I got mine unlocked for £10 - see previous poster)
- It is big (two hands needed), still quite slim but takes some getting used to
- Tom tom can't find internal gps, I ended up buying CoPilot (£26 downloaded)
- Toshiba keyboard isn't great, download Finger Keyboard 2.1 for free
- Battery life isn't great if taxed
- If you use as a PIM then you'll need something like Pocket Informant (MS software is pants)

Conclusion: If you need the features of a 'proper' smartphone then they don't come cheaper, but there are some compromises and you'll need to put in some effort because it's not great out-of-the-box. IMHO it was worth it.

Yesterday in Lewisham, SE London they had these in stock, although could have sworn the price was £119.99.
