Great dvd player at a very good price.
I bought one from comet when it was around £60 at xmas, however, mine was faulty, it kept making a high pitched squealing noise (amateur diagnosis - probably a faulty capacitor) so i had to return it. While we had it i used it on our KDL40W2000, not the newest tv i know, but the picture looked great.
The remote is on the ugly side.

Read the reviews, some people might have issues with it, but still a good deal.
Lovefilm subscription is 4 DVD's per month capped (48 DVD's over the year).

Shame it doesnt have a USB input, i would have bought it in a flash. I suppose the deal is balances whether you want years subscription to Love film. You can get a good upscaler for £60 no problems.

Multiregion hack:

- open the tray
- type 2403960
- press 9
- close the tray
- turn the player off and back on again

Exactly. I think in terms of DVD players, you can probably get a decent one with USB and upscaling, same features, for less... but then if you want the Lovefilm subscription and are going to use it, this is probably a good deal.

Alternatively this sells for circa £50 on eBay... so if you just want the subscription, you can always sell it there.

Looks good for me, with the subscription it is VFM

Shame it doesn't have an optical audio out otherwise I'd have bought it in a trice.

Has anyone actually used the hack and know that it works? I know there are a few supposed hacks out there that don't seem to do the job.

Also, if you've been with Lovefilm before, can you still claim this offer?

Multi-region hack works fine

I got it the last time it was this price, the whining noise is simple to get rid of, just unplug the dam thing!

But I also have another problem with mine, when it is playing a dvd (genuine or not) it will cut out for a second, then go to the TV's blue screen then cut back. I thought it was a fault with my player so got a replacement (with a new 12 month warranty, thanks curries) but the second one does the same!! Spoke to Toshiba and they said im the first to tell tham about the issue.

Its not the hdmi cable as I have tried several, he said it might be my TV, although my old Philips HDMI player worked perfectly so I dunno about that.

Apart from the above, its a very good player lol.

Love film subscription is a good little extra too.

I take it its the minimum 1 dvd at a time / 2 per monthsubscription - not unlimited?

nice price thanks

xde is a gimmick. they lost th HD wars with their HD-DVD vs Bluray... so came out with this!
but decent price for an upscaling DVD player nonetheless.

Thats what I thought, doesn't say anywhere.

Anyone know??

Expired - up to £74.99 now! They only had 3 last time I checked - probably only 3 at that price and now gone up!

EDIT: 3rd party seller only now.

andycs, where did you find out which Lovefilm tariff the deal is for? I've scoured the Toshiba website for details but the most detailed it gets is "a 12 month Lovefilm subscription".

If this is for anything other than the cheapest subscription, it's worth it for that alone. Even then though you can sell the player and get the subscription for a bit better than free. Only two left though... very tempted.

Theirs a link on the Amazon page about the Lovefilm offer "Get a free 12 month subscription to Lovefilm when you buy the Toshiba XDE advanced upscaling DVD player. (Terms and conditions apply)", . Once you have received your Toshiba XDE Upscaling DVD player click here (what's this?) and follow the guidance given to claim your free Lovefilm subscription. You must register within 14 days of purchase" at the bottom of the Lovefilm site under terms & conditions it tells you the subscription package.

Please note the DVD's now in stock are not being sold by Amazon.

I bought this same package with Comet when it was on offer last year. The LoveFilm promotion is worth £7.82 a month.

You are entitled to rent 2 DVD's at any one time (limited to 4 DVD's a month) The promotion will NOT include Games rental, but does include Bluray DVD's. You can upgrade your package if you want more DVD's or Games. Obviously, you will have to pay for any upgrade.

You register online with Toshiba first, then send your proof of purchase to LoveFilm. It takes a couple of weeks to process, but they will email you an activation code to use at LoveFilm to take up the offer.

Essentially, at £59.99 the DVD player pays for itself as the LoveFilm promotion is worth £93.84

Ps. The hack works fine

I also have a PS3 with Bluray and I can honestly say the Toshiba is just as good.

Although this deal has been expired because it's no longer in stock with Amazon, you could still put an order through if you want - only problem is end date of Lovefilm offer....

Bad review. I've read some much more favourable ones. Bottom line is you're getting a very good upscaler and 12 months Lovefilm for 60 quid. Beats replacing all your DVDs with Blu-Ray ;-)

Worth noting that if you've had a LoveFilm trial before you will not be eligible for this offer.

I was thinking about ordering one but checked with LoveFilm first and because my address (not my name) had previous had a trial I wasn't eligible.

Can any one point me in the right direction for a HD-DVD player please

I went for this when it was £80 with the lovefilm offer. Very happy with the player. It's silent when on but when in standby it does whine a high pitched tone so I unplug it when not in use. The picture does seem very good but it was replacing a 12 yr old player. I doubt it's anywhere near as good as blu ray.
The lovefilm offer is great. Well worth the money for that alone but with a DVD player thrown in for free HOT,HOT,HOT.
Only stress was all the hoops you have to jump through to get the deal. read the terms carefully.

I got this one a while back from Comet with the free Love Film Subscription. Very good value.
I also have the high pitched whining sound but couldnt be bothered to take it back. Had it in the bedroom for a bit and it was noticeable there but now in the lounge unless you're up close you cant hear it. The picture quality is brilliant compared with an ordinary DVD player. Im only watching it on an HD ready LCD not full HD and the upscaling is noticeable.

I pick mine up on Sat and will look forward to cancelling my sky package once the lovefim trial starts.

Someone mentioned about being able to upgrade the free trial - do u just pay the difference between what the free trial would have costed and what the upgraded package costs?

Yes, all you will pay for is the upgrade. Any doubts, call LoveFilm to confirm.
