Erm...since this would cost a few quid to make, more than £30-40 for this is unjustified, especially when you can achieve 95-98%of its functional use for free (—->use your fingers....?????) over priced and over rated.

If you’re going down that route then a pencil and paper would be even cheaper? This functions more than just a finger replacement

Can you find these parts for less and put them together with the same build quality?

The pencil tip is spring-loaded, and has two emitters buried within the shaft (I believe to measure angle of the pencil when in use)

Inside the plastic casing there is:
Antenna
Battery (3.82 V, 0.329 Wh lithium-ion)
A 1g, folded Logic board containing:
- ST Microelectronics STML151UCY6 Ultra-low-power 32-bit RISC ARM-based Cortex-M3 MCU,
- ST Microelectronics AS5C Y533 (also found in the 2015 Apple TV),
- L05286 QS4 VG Z SGP 528,
- EWX 01129,
- Cambridge Silicon Radio (Qualcomm) CSR1012A05 Bluetooth Smart IC.

I think anyone that has tried to write lecture / meeting notes on a tablet using their finger would disagree to be honest.

Worth the money for pressure sensitivity and shading abilities for sketching / drawing, in my opinion, but know Apple prices are not for everyone.

This pen will be obsolete in 10 years and fit for the scrapheap.

How do you know everyone has plain paper?

How do you know they last for centuries when they company is only 114 years old.

I don't disagree that Apple is expensive. I don't disagree that technology like this has a shelf-life and eventually becomes unusable due to battery-life or other performance issues.

What I disagree with is that this is just a "piece of plastic that can't write on paper"

I'm not a fanboy. I'm just joking around with those that seem offended by this post. If I see something that doesn't interest me, I just scroll past it.

I know Montblanc are a luxury brand, but they are still expensive for what is ultimately, a pen. But it's nice to have a rare, sometimes custom-made piece. I don't have anything like that, but I do have a pen that is special to me. It's a weighty, metal, refillable, with two-tone Spider-man comic art. I've not been able to find it ANYWHERE else. I can't find any information on it, but it's officially licensed by Marvel. I'd pay good money for another of the same or similar, up to maybe £30, but not £26,500.

Ah, I did, but the Apple Logo isn't a separate part, otherwise everyone would buy them.

The Apple Logo is engraved onto other parts to increase their value

Yeah but that montblanc pen for £26k you linked is made of white gold so the price is justified. We all know gold lasts for 1000s of years.

This Apple pencil with recycled chinese made plastic will be rubbish in 10 years when due to planned obsolescence.

I won’t live 1,000s of years... so £9.52 per year for an Apple Pencil sounds like pretty good value to me.

To be honest how can they even call this a pencil when the definition of pencil is:
"a long, thin object, usually made of wood, for writing or drawing, with a sharp black or coloured point at one end"

It's false advertising if it can't even write on paper. Should be called Apple stylus me thinks.

Absolutely ridiculous statement.

I'm an artist by profession and the apple pencil is an outstanding bit of kit.
I've went from carrying a bag full of supplies to and from the studio on a daily basis.. To carrying my ipad and pencil.

Have a look at apps such as procreate and see how your statement doesn't hold up.

It would be the same as saying - I'll stick with my 14 inch tube telly, it does the same thing as a 60 inch 4k TV.
