Depends on what you want.

I use mine at CoOp regular as thats my local convenience store, Amazon saving is pretty big , used 3 times this year at Thorpe Park and Alton Towers buying tickets for £20 each , so there are savings to be had

Just had the go from Amazon and they switched it automatically....

Oh, and a little bit of a refund on my old Prime that was due out in mid January.
A quick question, what's the deal now with totum/NUS there seems to be three different variations, do they all "work" or are recognised as "student" cards for applicable discounts?
Good find but I have found this card pointless
never used it as bigger discounts always available and larger retailers don’t use it anymore they focus on uni days instead

Main thing I use mine for is Amazon. £40 a year saving, I paid £33.50 for 3 years for mine with delivery a few months back.
Do you have to wait for the card to arrive before making a amazon account?

For me the best things have been amazon prime ( saving £40+ a year ) and boots (10% off )

For most people on full price amazon prime the 6 month trial of student prime that they give more than pays for the cost of the 3 year totum card..

All I need to do is to link my boots advantage card with my totum card at the till at any boots once a year and it lasts till 31st August of the next year . So I do not have to carry my totum card every time i go to boots .

Sort of - its minutes for the e-card to arrive into the app. I had to restart my phone (S9) before the app would open properly. Card was in there when I logged in. Screenshotted the details side of card and emailed the link given on the Student Prime - 'I have no ac.uk email' bit and a short while later noticed my Amazon account had been flipped over to the 6 month student trial, with monthly renewal, and auto-issue of refund of 'old' Prime. Changed the monthly to annual in Manage Prime account section. Now have 181 days of student trial before charge at end of June 2020.
For people sayong lack of discounts, just ask everywhere, they don't just tell you they do discount, you have to ask, yes big companies do discount, can save hundreds on public transport aswell.
For me, main things are Amazon Prime ( saving £40 a year ), Superdrug (10% off ), boots (10% off ), Co-op (10% off). Plus others I use occasionally, so deffinitely good savings for me.
Thanks OP. The savings on amazon prime is worth it alone.

Totally agree it's just waste of money

It's really not if you already pay for full Amazon Prime... If you don't, then yeh, probably don't bother.

I'll pay £24 + £30 Totum fee in the next 12 months for Amazon prime, would normally pay £96 for the year (monthly payments) so already saving £42 this year.

Will save a further £48 in each of the following years too.

I have Amazon prime since I was an actual student and still paying student price, you only need it once.

Cool, then I'll carry on saving £48 a year until Amazon decide to check if I'm "still a student" 😁

Apart from Amazon any good deals?

Apart from Amazon any good deals?

I use co-op quite often so 10% off will come in handy. Lots of the 'deals' listed on the Totum website strike me as advertised offers available to anyone using the shop in question, rather than being exclusive to Totum.
Thanks! Just ordered.
Look on the app as well.... free grub at McDs, 10% off at a fair few high street places, £10 to Heathrow from South Wales until end of Feb ( I think).

The biggie is obviously the Prime thing.

My personal fave is 5% off at Maplin.
50% off Spotify... making it a fiver a month for a single Premium account. Good if you don't fancy the VPN overseas route.

Can you link it yourself at a self-service till or do you have to get a member of staff to do it? Thank you.

I have a Totum card for one year. I'm using it for Amazon Prime and have used it a couple of times at the Co-op. However, a few retailers that Totum say you can use your card at, won't let me use it - they want me to verify my student status through the student beans website.

Have to do it at till with a member of staff at a Boots till .They dont actually scan the totum card. They just do quick check to see if the boots card and the totum card have the same name.

If you live in a small town like me you can always go to another boots in the city and 'link' your totum card to your boots card if you feel that you look too old to be a student

As I said in the earlier post once 'linked' it is valid till the next 31st August after which you have to link it again . Till that date you do not have to carry ot show your totum and the discount is automatic as long as you scan your boots card.

I have had 5 friends do it over the last year ( age range 25 to 71 ) and the till staff cannot discriminate based on age/sex or race.

One of the few occasions where I love the PC world we live in.

How long you had it for? I got an email at the 4 year point saying they wouldn’t renew it any longer (despite me actually still being a student). I could create another account though.
I assume you can just go for the Totum Pro card and don't need the student photo ID as well? I can just imagine the scenario that Boots (for example) can tell I'm over 30 and don't believe the Pro card is mine and ask for complementary photo evidence. I guess they can check my name against my drivers license if not though.
But don't you have to prove that your a full time student & have an email address ending ac.uk to complete this purchase?
@mpea999 You dont... I was last a student 20 odd years ago.

Just used my normal home email address.
Will amazon accept this to extend the student prime membership? Had an email before Xmas saying I'd reached the end of my student member period. Anyone succeeded in extending it?
Thank you for this OP!

If you have a currently active NUS / Totum card, you will need to use another email address. I just created another account and made a new (as my current runs out shortly, don't want to take the chance that this month be possible come summer!)
What course should I select or type when it asks for WHERE DO YOU STUDY ?
@saz1703 Just pop in anything. I picked education as that's my job background. Just pick something related to your job or interests that way its memorable should anyone ask.

The NUS card expired in the summer so not sure if the account dies with it? Anyway, had to switch to the monthly plan for the moment while I get something sorted out.
