Which stores are remaining open and for how long?

Modified on: Wed, 28 Feb, 2018 at 4:53 PM

No stores have been closed by the Administrators and all sites are currently open for trading. The Administrators will manage the store trading strategy whilst also evaluating the options regarding the company’s future and determining how to obtain the best possible outcome for all creditors. It remains to be decided if some or all the stores will be closed, however, while the Administrators evaluate their options, they will begin to implement an orderly wind-down of the company’s store portfolio.

Store managers will be informed as matters progress.

On our last day open when we discounted by the hour and we had people stood with trolleys full of complete tat (and I mean things like packets of drinking straws and old greetings cards) waiting until the last minute to get it for pennies. It was soul destroying.

'soul destroying'?
ermm it's someone else's company who got few millions in bonuses while all shop floor employees got nothing.
It's business after all.
soul destroying is watching kids in poverty who don't have anything to eat.
i feel bad for the staff in these situations. none of this is their fault and losing your job under this current government is something I wouldn't wish on anyone, but they'll still have to deal with entitled members of the public who think they're owed a "deal"

I don't know. I cant find information to confirm that they are all closing down. all I can find is a list of 26 stores from december

No, it's a managed shutdown I think like they did with HMV. So they get rid of the lowest performing stores, liquidate any stock and then run a much smaller offering of profitable stores.

I'm surprised they've lasted this long tbh.

Agree. After 10% lego is still cheaper in other places. Apart from ninjago ship everything else was expensive

Since Toys r us sell at full RRP 10 PER CENT off Lego is a joke.
Popped in on way home and there was nothing even remotely cheap.
Like Barbie 10 per cent off 50 per cent off instore elsewhere.

Anyone know what will happen to the current ToysRUs exclusive Lego sets? Hoping that they will be offered to another retailer

I’ve been wondering if this weeks announcement was mainly a tactical decision to walk away from a few poorly negotiated long term lease agreements.

The discounts listed above don’t sound like they’re from a retailer desperate to raise capital. HMV 2.0?
Went to my local store a few weeks go...good to know they’re still selling at this discounted rates that pretty much just bring them down to the price one can buy it from elsewhere. Even in administration, they don’t quite get what their problem is 😩

I saw plenty of incidents kick off in Woolies as it was closing. One older woman even started shouting at a store manager because some rather garish picture she wanted to buy was "only" 10% off.

Huge respect to the bloke for keeping his cool because he certainly didn't have to. Considering the fact he was going to be out of a job in a few weeks from that date, he could have easily told her where to go.

You're quite right, business is business and that wasn't my point. What was soul destroying was seeing the pure greed of 'entitled' people as the previous poster mentioned. Those people scrounging for tat and arguing and fighting with other shoppers over remains. It really does make you question humanity when, as you say there are people living in poverty with nothing to eat and people behaving this way because of greed.

Given the weather conditions right now, the presenter on the radio noted that during moments like this we see people at their best (in reference to helping each other out). I think we see the best of whatever qualities people excel in. A nice person goes beyond niceness. Unfortunately a douche just excels at being just that. Whether it’s weather disruptions, fuel blockades or stores closing down.

Oh yes, some will buy anything, as long as discounted 🙈🙈
Just at a store now. There's not much with anything other than 10%. Noticed a snes mini at £79.99 with 20% but everything is at full price compared to the prices I remember seeing at Christmas. Ghostbusters Lego at a whopping £280.

so.... do I go this weekend or the next?
I've just visited the Nottingham store. Lots of people walking round with empty trolleys and no one actually buying anything. No bargins here...

This is partly the reason they are where they are. Just about everything I've ever looked to purchase has been more expensive at Toysrus, apart from the odd item.
I'll wait until the discounts get a bit deeper than now, but I also feel kind of shady preying on a companies misfortunes 🤔

Yes? Facts are irrefutable there.

Regardless of political affiliation the current government have screwed people like the toy's r us staff. The ones that have to suffer the dire mess of job centres and universal credit. I really feel sorry for them

Political affiliations are like brand fanboys. Such as Apple or PS4 fanboys etc. Some can't simply admit when there favourite party/brand are doing something wrong.

Btw I'm not a major labour fan either, but you can't really dispute the benefit rage of the current tools.
Honestly don't see any good deals to be had here
Just visited my local TrUS... Sure plenty of things are in the sale, but every single thing I saw that looked decent, I pricechecked online, and not one was cheaper than elsewhere even with the 20% off applied..

Labour, Tories - their all the same - get into power and it goes to their heads.
Crooks the whole lot of them.
Went to bolton yesterday, 99% down sized to one small area. Nothing decent left.
Have always found toys r us insanely expensive, our local store has just had a massive refurb which is crazy as they must have known they were in trouble before they started it!

Surprised they've lasted this long to be honest. Sad times
