Has anyone used this pointing out a window?

Got this a week ago .
When it's pointing out the window the inferred glares back and you can't see anything but if you turn off auto and put it on daytime it' works really good even at night time.
    Hope this helps you

Does it run ok local on Home assistant or does it need the cloud?

yes, I had one running in frigate. Then just added it to the Lovelace card in HA dashboard.

You can use the TAPO Cam plugin from HACS to control the PTZ but It's very laggy in it's responsiveness. (edited)

Got one to monitor vacant property. When working it's good but keeps dropping wi-fi connection. Pretty useless for me.

Hmm, looking for the Kasa version at this price, as I already have a couple, and don't want to use the Tapo app as well as Kasa.

You're going to struggle to find a Kasa camera now at a decent price.

does this work well as a stand alone unit without the bells and whistles of an internet connection?

i need a relatively cheap unit that saves to an sd card just to monitor my garage and theres no wifi reception there

Can you just record to an SD card with this, also can you view footage from a desktop (say via browser)?

just a note for anyone using HA. This is a 2.4ghz only camera so be sure it's not going to interfere with your zigbee network.

shows up as £28 or me.

Can recommend these tapo cameras. I use the static version, both the 1080p and the 3mp. Great with NVR as they are onvif compliant
