It's been posted before but is a great piece of kit for the cash. I bought one a month or two ago.

I have a belkin 8 port gigabit switch downstairs hooked up to all my stuff, but I have a PC upstairs and a PS3, would connecting this upstairs be a problem? As want to stream stuff from my NAS downstairs to the PS3 up stairs.

Hope that made sense, thanks

Do you have a cable running upstairs from downstairs?
If so sorted.

Amazing, if you only need 100mb then you can get its slower sibling for £5.32!

I've got a couple of these. If you have the appropriately fast disks you can manage 114Meg/sec!!!

Realistically you're looking around 40meg/sec from an average hard disk (reading from one machine, writing to another)

Yes got a cat5e from my router/switch 35 meters along floor board. Glad I got rid on the homeplugs, 8.00 for 35 meters of cat 5e. or 40.00 homeplugs that stutter

Great price.
Would grab one if I had a Gigabit router.
Really should get one.
PS3 & 360 FTP is painfully slow on 10/100

I ordered one of these last week for my NAS server. It had a 1 or 2 month delivery expectation but, as they have arrived early, it should be with me tomorrow.

You dont need a Gigabit router, the one you get from sky or virgin are backwards compatible, so it doesnt matter. Routers work like that on wireless, like b.g.n 150mbs ect.. wireless

@ 13.67 go on spoil yerself!!

Anyone know what the "unmanaged" part of this means? What's the difference between using a managed one?

Managed is for a server application, you need this one, if you had servers, you would not ask. LOL

Also Managed switches are over 100.00 If you work in a building that has computers, go the room that says restricted and inside will have farm4.static.flickr.com/351…jpg

Ah right, thanks. Plenty of server racks at work, maybe I should pay more attention.

Amazon deal now on the right with 1-2 months wait.

Nah, if you wanted a managed switch you can get them fairly cheaply if you keep an eye on ebay. Nice if you are playing around. I just picked up a two 24 port 1gbit managed dell switch for 70

Ok, buy 1, and plug everything direct into the switch, with one port in to the router, and that should do it although i don't believe the xbox 360 is gigabit anyways.

voted hot. bought two of these from somewhere called redstore for 15 each, about a year ago... so they've always been cheap, but they are great value. doubled the file transfer speed to my NAS box so well worth the cash (but if you're expecting it to go up by a factor of ten, you're likely to be disappointed.)

Whats this for? Whats the purpose of these switches? Thanks.

It offers extra ethernet (network) ports for connecting additional computers/devices to your router.

Great Price! Been waiting for a cheap gigabit switch for ages!

If you have gigabit LAN ports on your PC/Console/Revo/Microserver you connect each one to the switch via network cable, connect the remaining switch position to the router. If you transfer data between any of the PC/Console/Revo/Microserver it will happen between about 3X and 10X the speed you get with 10/100 LAN without having to set anything up...and of course they will still have access to the router for the internet and NO it won't speed that up!

It's a great little piece of kit, I got mine about a week ago from Amazon after seeing the existing deal.

I only wish SAMBA on FREENAS was faster than USB2 speed (30MB/s) or windows could see NFS shares which transfer at 2xUSB2 speeds

Though still better than the 10MB/s I was getting with standard 10/100 from my router, + I now have enough ports to connect everything to the internet.

Typical. This has been this price forever on Amazon. I was going to buy a one, much needed, in the week. Then someone posts it here and it sells out just before and now I have to wait 1-2 months.

In fairness it said 1-2 months last week, and it came back in stock within the week. There's a chance the same thing will happen again.

My NAS says IEEE802.3ab/IEEE802.3/IEEE802.3u Standard
(1000 BASE-T/100 BASE-TX/10 BASE-T)

Anyone know what speed that makes it.

1000 BASE-T = GIGABIT

Oh good, I have an Acer revo 3700 so I guess this may speed things up rather than going through my dlink router. Is that correct?.

or for 92p extra (than the £13.67 originally posted as I write this) you can get direct from 7dayshop.com

clickity click

..and it seems about a pound cheaper than the Amazon link in the O.P. ( which now seems to be £15.61 as I write this)

Cracking bit of kit. Ordered from 7dayshop for the extra couple of quid.

Just over a squid cheaper if you get it off the 7dayshop website.

I've had one of these running for the last year or so without respite. Solid as a rock.

I bought one of these from Amazon last week. Didn't post it as it has been this price for ever.

It is a good bit of kit. Mine turned up all black, which in my view looks nicer so I was please with that. I've got a Revo, a desktop and 2 Buffalo NAS plugged into it. All gigabit ready. Write speeds went up from about 80 to 100; read speeds from 85 to nearly 400. This is the gigabit switch vs. my 100Mbps modem router. It connects to the modem with one RJ45, obviously it can't talk to the router any faster, but everything connected to the gigabit switch can talk to everything else that much faster. If I'm shipping HD video round the house, at least I know the switch isn't going to be the bottleneck.

There is a 100Mbps version of this for £5.32 listed here. But if my £200 Acer desktop comes with gigabit, let's face it anything you buy now will, so why clog up your network with an old skool switch for the sake of less than a tenner extra.

Exactly right mate (transfer of files and reading of other devices connected to switch - not internet)

Thanks 3world.

Does anyone know where I can get a gigabit pci card (old pci not pci e).

Yes, if the Revo 3700 supports gigabit ethernet.
