You still need a modem

Nice deal

Looks good - I'm tempted. Pity it doesn't have a USB port

Looks good on paper, but what are the wi-fi speeds like in reality?

I'm wondering if this would have better wifi covering than my existing Virgin "super" hub 3.0?

Doesn't look like dd wrt
Good price still

Who the hell pays for a router your provider should give you one. Just ask for the newest one at renewal and threaten to leave they'll chuck one in

This is better than one provided by BT?

You should see the rubbish Virgin provides their cable customers with. The SH3 for example is totally useless with issues even in Modem Mode.

I think the BT one is pretty good, certainly in terms of wifi coverage.
I'd be surprised if this was better.

I hear a lot of people complaining about the Super hub 3. I have one and thankfully no't have any issues. It pulls in my 200Mbit download and don't have any wifi issues as yet. Everything is withion a close range though.

What kind of stupid comment is that? Most routers that are provided by your ISP are extremely limited in features.

Same here I'm on 100MB no issues whatsoever. People probably place their router outside their front door

anyone know if this router has any custom (better) firmware available and whether it can be used solely as an access point?

Looks like It can update no-ip with your ip addr, thats good enough for me!

Well..Don't know..Speed is ..not what they said..I have fibre upto 52mb..thru WiFi from my upstairs bedroom max downloading speed is 4..4.5mb/s...

Price is cheap, but actual gigabit speed is made up of dual band total - so up to 433Mbps over 5GHz and up to 450Mbps over 2.4GHz. Now if you know something about routers, then that theoretical best speed you can easily divide by 2 or more to get a real life best speed, therefor if you already are on 100Mbps or even 200Mbps connection you might not be able to max out your connection with this router.

I used to be in a similar situation. I'm with Virgin (up to 100Mbps) and super hub 2. We used to have up to 70Mbps connection before we moved and I would max it out with no problems.
Now after move we were told that they do not do up to 70Mbps and we have to have 100Mbps instead. Now in our new home I would be getting 50Mbps over 2.4GHz just being meters away from router. Thought they are ripping me off. Tried with the cable and I would be getting 100-110Mbps, so thought must be the laptop. Tried other devices - same thing. Now bought a true gigabit router, run 2.4GHz (so I can still get a WIFI in a shed) and 5GHz in the home. All my devices now are 5GHz compatible and I get solid 100Mbps or more over WIFI.
So difference for me was I used to live on a road next to the park and with around 40 neighbors. Now I live in a terraced house with double the neighbors and every one is on 2.4GHz band and therefor it is over crowded.
On 5GHz band I have another neighbors network on the same channel as mine and no networks that are overlapping. Fastest broadband I ever had.
So my suggestion is for you to try the cable and if you get quite close to the speed you are paying for, then the issue is in your router, channel, band etc.

To get 5GHz on the superhub, you have to change the router settings, it's off by default and expects your devices to figure out which one to use (a bit daft). So my SH pushes both 2.4 and 5 and no problems here. Pay for 100, get about 110 on 5GHz WiFi

True. I was running both on SH2 but even on 5GHz upstairs I would be getting around 40Mbps (if lucky) and that is were my "office" is with my gaming PC. Problem is I rent and my router was placed in a rubbish place so for me to move it in a better location would mean drilling etc and I don't think my landlord would like a cable running across the living room bypassing a fire place then going in a wall and half way in to dining room. So I was hunting on ebay for a week and managed to get really lucky and bought D-link AC1900 for less than £50. Now all my problems are solved!

Hahahaha yeah I don't think the landlord would be pleased with that

Well...problem is that I can't connect it thru cable as the laptop socket differs from the normal lan cable socket ( like .. same shape smaller size...Lenovo I3 Z50-70

I've just watched this (not in English) but doesn't really matter:

I guess this is something you are having? If so, damn, I've never seen anything like it. Learn something every day... Also looks like the guy in a video is almost braking it to make the cable fit, I'm shocked, what the hell Lenovo was thinking?!

I don't know..I thought all laptops are the same...I might write Lenovo a mail about this, maybe they will provide me an adapter or something..

On one hand how often does one use Ethernet port on their laptops these days but on the other even a 10" notebooks have one (standard) and when you need to use it you would not to expect to have a such a hassle to fit the cable in...
Check software called inssider (older versions are free, newer ones come with a 30 day trial). It will show your and your neighbors network signal strength, link quality between your network and your device. How many networks are on the same channel as yours etc.
Sometimes by simply changing your network broadcast channel you could improve your speed eg if your closest networks are say on 6th and 11th channel, then you should set up yours on channel 1.

Will do. Thank you very much

Thanks op. Ordered for delivery today. Hope it's better than my virgin super hub 3.
