You can't choose the channels these run in and you can't choose how the mesh is set up. For example, if you have Main Deco (A), with the satellites Deco (B) and (C), the configuration (A) > (B) > (C) in a straight line may not work because (C) will stubbornly tries to connect to (A) instead of connecting to the closer and faster (B) satellite. It will eventually connect if (A) is too far for it to detect, but it's a pain I'd like to avoid, and a bad experience in this regard.
The Deco M5's mesh, on the other hand, can be manually configured using TP-Link's beta firmware (can't be rolled-back). TP-Link has said their technicians are looking into bringing the feature to their other Deco lines but this was like 2 years ago with the only thing that ever came out was the beta software for the M5's.
If you're going to install these in a triangle mesh formation then I have no complaints. The app is a breeze to use and we get good reliable signal and speeds. Just wished there was more customisation available for the user. (edited)
Basically TP- link devices have a paid anti-virus service. However even if you opt out it still sends the data and If you try and block it the device fails.
XDA developers has covered it but if you want a lot of technical detail:
reddit.com/r/hardware/comments/tbthjj/psa_newer_tplink_routers_send_all_your_web/
They do now claim that this might not be the case with all devices but nobody has verified this. (edited)
Just one upstairs but depending on your home size and where you need to place them then one downstairs & two upstairs would not hurt (edited)

What?
I am on virginmedia 500mbps but cannot get near that speed.
Anyone with any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks
Between your main deco and your modem/router you need a better ethernet cable capable of them speeds
Looking to upgrade to WiFi 6, any recommendations? (edited)
An Orbi (AC3000) will get close to that speed(I get over 300Mb/s from my Amazon Fire stick and I've seen YouTube speed tests of around 450Mb). If you need an extra satellite you can buy one at £100, or flash a v1 Orbi router(used - about £40-60 on eBay)with special firmware that turns it into a satellite, doesn't work on v2 router). I'm using the Orbi in access point mode not as a router.

Cheers, used the default one, ie provided from the virginmedia box (cat6). I'll try to buy a better one, any suggestion?
Thanks
Cheers, looks decent, do you think it is future proof, fir instance supporting 1g broadband. Maybe will opt for this speed in the future.
Also any tips to get close to 500mbps with deco m4.
Thanks (edited)
Dont ignore him but you dont need the orbi buddy your mesh system is very capable i have it in the cuppoard from before i upgraded...
Any decent ethernet cable will do the trick buddy did you get on in the box with the mesh kit? (edited)
Why do you think it's the ethernet cable causing the issue(pretty unlikely to have a cable not rated at 1Gb)? My Firestick speed tests ... my Deco ran only slightly over 100Mb(AC1200), the ASUS Mini C6 was faster (AC1500), BT Whole Home mesh (AC2500) slightly over 200Mb, Orbi RK50 (AC3000) over 300Mb. These are speeds connected to one satellite node, not directly to the main wired node. (edited)
Thanks. No I used the one provided by deco for connecting my laptop to one of the deco m4 satellites. For connecting the virgin router to the main satellite, I am using the one which was provided by virgin box, it is an unbranded cat6 UTP cable.
