Tapo make decent camras & having the SD card option means no need to pay for a cloud subscription.

It does eventually overwrite the data though.
But these are good little cameras.
I have one in my conservatory looking out into the garden and one in my kitchen looking at the drive

Great cameras and cloud service with Tapo. These make great baby cams if streaming via an iPad or tablet.

Hi, will it record 24/7 on loop record to SD card? That's exactly what I'm after you see.

I have these and they're great. The only downside is the App is abit temperamental and slow.
Most times I have to close app before it would work.

The 2k version is only £22.99, don't know if it's much different from this one

I have both, and there is a very noticeable difference in image quality. Well worth the extra i.m.o.

I'm new to home CCTV. Seems to be an overwhelming array of brands/choices/models. Price looks good. This one is fixed view right? I need it to be near a socket, how long is the cable or can I just get a really long USB cable and it will still work?

Standard power cable length supplied with this TP-Link cam is 3 metres.
A long USB cable will be no good for you, in fact any length USB cable will be no good for this TPL cam as it uses a round 5.5/2.1mm DC barrel connector to carry 9 Volts not 5 Volts to the cam.
A decent quality 5.5/2.1mm extension cable should be good for up to arbitrary 20 metres.

Many other cams use USB power and connectors, such as the £18.99 Blurams pan+tilt+tracking + freebie cloud clips model mentioned in this thread.

Reasonable cam & features but the Blurams £18.99 indoor model is my current go-to:
inclusive ongoing zero-cost cloud-stored clips of movement-triggered events (+ optional local microSD storage + optional cloud sub)
    mobile & PC/web apps
    Alexa etc

I'd say in most cases just pay £5 more for the higher res and PTZ one that you can control remotely and see anywhere in the room. I got one last week and they work so well.
These Tapo cams have SD card slots so you dont need cloud subscriptions. And amazingly they're quite open, like they have RTSP and Onvif support so you can use them with things like NVRs and Home Assistant or just view streams in media players like VLC. They have a low res sub stream URL too. Although I dont think theres any snapshot/jpeg link but thats fine. I just expected them to be locked down to the TP link app so anything is a nice suprise.

How do you stream in VLC?

Great Camera but cannot it to work with my Alexa… contacted seller but they just sends links, maybe just pilot error

Has anyone tried blocking the TP Link servers in their routers to se if these still work?

I'm wondering if whenever the servers do go down they can still serve any useful purpose or not.

    Thanks.

I use them as RTSP on a separate subnet with no internet access, apart from NTP access on port 123 so they can set the correct time. They work great.
