Amazon smart plug
Not as cheap but no pain either. (edited)
I wouldn't expect much of a saving if you only have a single appliance plugged into one but I have several of these in use with extension leads connecting multiple devices to save standby power. (TV/AMP/games console etc..)
I actually have Alexa routines configured so the smartplugs power off/on when activity is detected by my Ring Alarm motion detectors.
Common cause for these stopping working is if you change the password in the Tapo app, if you change your Tapo app password you have to unlink/relink the Tapo skill with Alexa (edited)
I got amazon brand now coming today. This one will work hopefully. Thanks for you opinions mate.
Is it a fallacy in terms of energy saving?
Im sure there will be some appliances that have higher and some lower standby energy consumption
I just returned these yesterday. It simply didn't work for me. I tried both android and iOS phone but no success.
Glad it wasn't just me then. I found they worked flawlessly with Alexa for about 4 hours then stopped working for no reason and no amount of trying could change that. Everything else connected to Alexa works like a dream though.
Put me off their products for life.

I didn't change or do anything. They just stopped working. A few people on amazon report the same problem.
Can they safely operate with how many plugs or total amps plugged in?
Also, what are alternative brands and features. Though 4 for £27 does seem good value. Surprised not hotter.

Tenda's one is rated at 10A while the P100 is rated at 13A. Aside from this I am interested to compare the user experience between the two.
What was the issue? Sometimes if you have separated 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz WIFI bands and your phone connects to the 5Ghz it may cause an issue as these will join the 2.4Ghz.
I have probably 8 or so of these installed and no issues. Even work in Home Assistant now as well as the app and Google Home/Alexa etc.
I have some static IP devices installed. I turned off 5g and still no success.
Not sure what the issue was then sorry. I have static IPs (in fact the Tapos need static IP for Home Assistant too) and stuff but not had any issues at all.
A shame TP-Link didn't merge Kasa and Tapo when they acquired them but I have a mix of Kasa and Tapo and with Home Assistant installed on a Raspberry Pi and Google Home it makes little difference to me which system they use now.
Just seems the Kasa's are better built to me.

I'd be happy to be corrected on this!
I was using wrong app that was the reason I couldn't connect the device silly me
Yes they do

How do you do the alexa routine to turn on plugs when ring detects? Like you get it to automatically put on house lights?
Yes. Ring Motion detector sees movement between set hours and turns on the smartplug
I'd hazard a guess that ZigBee or zigwave sockets would use a lot less power than a WiFi enabled device.
WiFi is over the top for just a simple on and off switch IMO.
So they do. Got more expensive, paid £8.99 each in November 2021. Now double the price.
