I'm sure some people already know about this service but for those who don't you can opt here to stop nuisance calls.

maybe this should have been the Op getting lots of coverage on the news but oddly only one story on google. You can now apply by text to add your mobile number, seems something like 80% of landlines are signed up to TPS but only 3% of mobiles.

This doesn't stop all calls the real scammers who phone from abroad will still get through

pocket-lint.com/new…how

been with them for months, was still getting the ppi and insurance calls, just install a call blocker so much simpler
if only it did, too many foreign call centres these days
Apparently it only works if the caller subscribes to the TPS non call service, there is no legal requirement to do so It does block a lot of nuisance calls though, my elderly mum has hardly any now thankfully:)
It only covers calls originating from the UK. any number routed through a UK switchboard is not covered and therefore not regulated by TPS rules and procedures.
been registered with this for years but still get calls daily, however they have probably been cut down from what i would receive without it. since I actually stopped answering the phone to withheld/numbers I don't recognise the calls have massively reduced.
didn't know about the mobile service though, don't get many through that but might as well register anyway.
Yeh tps dont work.
Wish there was a way to stop the spam texts as well.
signed up years ago I still get calls. report them on here ico.org.uk/for…ls/ also you can report texts here and email I think
tell them your a pathologist and in the middle of an autopsy and don't call again.
or if you got young toddlers give them the phone to talk to the funny man

Wish there was a way to stop the spam texts as well.

Well if you post your number on here I will see what I can do X)
Just tell them you will have to pass the call to your supervisor.......they quickly ask if its a company phone and when you say yes they usually apologies and say the number will be removed from their system. I've hardly had a call from the jokers in months!

TPS 07xxxxxxxxx
to 78070
to register (07xxx... being your phone number!)
it probably won't stop the PPI calls, but now they're breaking the law so can technically get into trouble
it can't stop international calls - for example the guy from call centre (tv reality show) is setting up a call centre in india to cold call to get leads that his UK call centre can follow up - this loophole has been on-going for a while
using a call blocker won't necessarily be ideal for many because you may miss important calls. i get business enquiries from strangers so if i blocked unknown/private numbers or numbers i didn't recognise, i'd lose a lot of legitimate calls
if you get a missed call from a number you don't recognise, google it - some websites will flag up known scam and spam calls e.g. tellows.co.uk/num…892
on iPhone you can block a number if you've answered it and it's turned out to be spam (from recents, find the number, click 'i' then scroll to the bottom for 'block this caller'. on android you can install 'should i answer' - and they will automatically block negative numbers from their database. i've only had 6 out of 914 calls blocked but that's 6 more than I would have without the app
and with text spam - forward it to 7726 ('SPAM' spelt out using the old SMS alphabet using the keypad). if enough people do this, the number gets blacklisted by the network.
I actually worked on the TPS phone line many many years ago and it was always ineffective for a LOT of people myself included. I still get unsolicited calls and texts and i've been on the list over 10 years.
Been registered for some time, worked like an absolute dream for me. Highly recommended.
Registering with TPS is a pre-requisite to reporting nuisance calls and texts to the ICO - you have to have been registered for at least a month before you can complain. Help get this scum fined.

I get maybe just 3/4 cold calls per year and have been with TPS for as long as I can remember. Also make sure you go ex directory with your land line, only give out your mobile number to trusted firms and tick or don't tick the boxes as appropriate when ordering stuff online, that all makes a big difference.
I registered with TPS around 2 years ago and I still got 15-20 calls a week, I tell them they shouldn't be calling this number and they hang up but I doesn't stop them ringing back a few days later. The only way to stop them is to purchase a call blocking device like the CPR CallBlocker which is a excellent and easy device to set up and use.
I signed up for this before and still get same amount of calls
I just went to register my mobile but got told by phone I will be charged for the text as it don't come in free messages, is it standard charge rate for text to TPS?

My z3 compact warned me of that too, took a chance and it did charge me 10p.
I just ask them where they got my number from, which usually results in them hanging up.

Or I just sit the phone down whilst they're talking, and leave it there for half an hour.
Mobile has actually been registered longer than the Landline.

Never had any on mobile but it's rarely given out to companies etc, but landline goes through phases of receiving calls and TPS never made a difference.

TPS also don't cover "surveys" which for the first time I've had calling this year from UK call centres.
Signed up for this for myself and the family Well over a year ago, and we get more nuisance calls now than ever before (Including early hour calls!) Avoid this Scam!!! (Sister has even had to change her home phone number now and mum is considering it!!) Im sure these are selling on phone numbers!!!

I found that certain calls were still getting through and it was a real nuisance when both mine and partner's elderly parents were ill in other parts of the country.EG we were getting 'silent' calls at 4 and 5 in the morning which obviously was upsetting. We got BT 'call guardian' which has been great and stopped the hassle
Hi

Ok thank you
I've been on TPS for over 5 years but still get about 2 to 5 calls per days.

How do you install a call blocker

How do you install a call blocker

It depends.
I ask them how they got my number & if they can remove my details from their list. They usually give me some abuse or try to continue the conversation - the amount of time these calls waste is annoying! I registered with this service a long time ago - do I need to re-register?
Why is nobody mentioning the 5 digit number that charges to send this text? If it doesn't even do anything to take your number off call lists, isn't it just an easy money maker?
Doesnt make much difference. I have been registered for many years and still get countless cold calls. These b*****d cold calling marketing organisations that should be checking this dont and wont and will just call regardless. They are are a bit like the government....you can vote for any party you wish but the Government will always get in anyways.
The TPS used to just need the address to send a confirmation letter (thats when i worked there).
