From the same people who bought you MegaBUS and fares from £1, they have recently launched Megatrain on South West and Virgin train routes.

With single journeys as low as £1, you have no excuse to get out this summer!

Great offer fordy!

Hmm... there seems to be very limited availability. I checked London-Bath for 2 saturdays ahead, and it said there were no seats going out!!

Do they only have a small number of seats on each train going back and forth?

Fantastic! Shame nothing connecting Brum to Manchester. Oh well, my girl's rich, she can come see me instead.

On South West trains I think they have their own branded carriage and on Virgin they have an allocation of stadard class seats

Excellent find fordy

Megabus saved me a fortune when I regularly commuted between Scotland and London. Buses are horrible in summer though but for £1, I'll have to shut up ;-)

Thanks for this ! Just got 2 return tickets to Southampton from London for £4.50p including booking fees !!!!

welcome to HUKD geordieorley

Nice one, thank you.

It gives me a great excuse for some potentialy great day trips to places like manchester which i would not normally do

Thanks Again

even if it did link manc to bham, you could still only go to southhampton or bournemouth...

I've never uses Megatrain but I have used Megabus numerous times so if it's the same process...

Basically you book your journey and they e-mail you the details including a booking number. You take that booking number to the bus with you and the driver has a list of names and numbers and that's it.

Only real downside is that that there's no assigned seating so you're better off getting to the stop as early as you can. They don't oversell the bus but you can sometimes get on a bus where every double seat has one person in it and the drivers will 'not' help you out.
Apart from that I've never had a problem with the bus service, cheap and cheerful.

They only run a few services a day so their busses are nearly always pretty full, that's how they get away with charging less - no empty seat subsidies.

I used this from newcastle to edinburgh last week and it was great the only thing is you dont get a ticket you just give your reference number to the conductor when they come round. Oh and they say that there is a designated carriage but there isnt apparently not enough people booking through them yet. Cant argue at a train fare that normally costs me £23 for a pound.

Was about to post this and see it's already posted,so this is an update on info etc.

I recently found out that the train companies used are Virgin and Southwest trains.
You use the same train as any other passenger paying full price!!!!

I went through all Stations that you can go from and were they go and vice versa, this took a wee while

All of these can be found @ £1.00+(50p admin fee)single fare.

Note some severices are not available on weekends.

What does a megatrain look like?

http://www.megatrain.com/assets/train%203.gifFor customers travelling on services operated by South West Trains Ltd, there will be a designated carriage shown by megatrain distinctive branding as used throughout this site. For customers travelling on services provided by Virgin Trains no specific carriage is provided but megatrain customers are welcome to sit in any unreserved Standard Class seat, and there will be an increased number of non-reservable seats available on these trains.

General questions about service can be found on this link below

Thank you to the person that left me rep and compliment.....they did'nt leave a name. Your welcome.

If anyone uses this service, can they come back with feedback etc.....always good to have.

I wonder what will happen to the Virgin routes now that Arriva have won that franchise - also the Birmingham - Southampton route has reduced its frequency , I get the feeling megatrain is winding down although with Stagecoach winning the East Midlands franchise more routes could be introduced

National Express Funfares have added new routes eg Birmingham -High Wycombe - Slough - Southall

Fordy, you said, 'With single journeys as low as £1, you have no excuse to get out this summer!'
Well, this would not sell the megatrain tickets
I think you meant, 'you have no excuse to stay in this summer' :-D:-D
