Wish I'd seen this an hour ago 🙈 just booked tickets over the Christmas period.
I would sooner jump infront of one than sign up to PayPal to get on one
I abandoned Trainline thanks to booking and card fees. The only good thing is their app; cheap tickets are available with many other sites.

or start at nationalrail.co.uk and let it send you to whichever operator it wants to. However, some of them offer things like free postage, and you can buy any ticket from any operator.

Omio is sometimes worth it despite their booking fee because of how much cashback they can offer.

As others have suggested, start with National Rail. And don't forget to check splitting the ticket to make it even cheaper, when possible.
