i have one of these dash cams. very good at what it does but you will end up turning the Forward Collision Warning System off as it keeps beeping for no reason. plus this price is very good. heat added
Bit too big, but good price considering has GPS. Dashcam is a must, too many liars on the road, and too many insurance companies that just want an easy way out.
Cheapest around - heated

I just use a cheap / spare Android phone with AutoBoy.
If your phone is up to it, you can run AutoBoy in the background while you simultaneously run Nokia Here offline satnav.
You also have the option of piping the audio to your stereo over bluetooth while playing music from your phone's SD card!
3 devices in one for a lot less than the price of a dedicated piece of hardware

As for lane departure / collision detection, there's nothing quite "there" on Android yet but iOnRoad is getting close.
Thanx op been watching for price to drop on these
Thanks. Was umming and ahhing about whether to get the one with the sticky mount or the one with the suction mount. This made my mind up.
How does the lane departure work on this please? is it sensed by the camera "looking" at road markings or does it come with sensors?
I've been watching out for a deal on this or the 100 version. This one is currently in Halfords for £78.42

+1

Got my 'old' HTC One X set up for recording.
Not a bad camera, but too big and glossy. Unless you're going take it down every time you leave your car, this is going to get stolen
Great price with all the bells and whistles.
(Sorry by the way I've just posted this too, not realising someone had done it already. Hopefully it will get picked up)

It's stunning what you can do with an old phone but people never think about it...
Offline GPS, Dash cam, Nanny cam, Security camera, Intercom, IP Phone, Remote audio playback (connect to your amp like Chromecast Audio), Mp3 player (aux / bluetooth), Wifi remote control for compatible electronics, Wifi mouse / keyboard for HTPC, RDP to home PCs (TeamViewer), Retro Emulator (connect a gamepad), etc, etc...

I'm after a dash cam but can't seem to find any good discrete ones that could be left in the car. Most, like this, are either glossy, too big, or have chrome shiny pieces on.

If anyone knows of one...

Blackvue do some that are small enough to hide behind your mirror. The other option for totally hidden is to use an action cam in a water proof case (with power mod) and hide it in the grill of the car. This will be video only as audio it just wind and engine noise.

I couldn't be bothered to stop every mile to clean the case lens window.

Have a look at B40 or A118c, they are pretty much same thing.
I am waiting for street guardian sg9665gc to come down in price, as it has good night vision, Google it
Also look a mobius camera the latest model I think it's the C2 not sure but Google it is about 60 to 70 £

You would be surprised at how clean it stays. Peer through the grill on the car and see how clean the radiator is? Cleaning it once a week when you do an engine bay check should suffice for most.

This deal is the 220, the deal you're quoting is for the 200!!!!

The Halfords one ISN'T an older model, it's the 200, also available at Argos for the same price as Halfords. I think some people could do with finding a deal at Specsavers!!!

Don't talk such utter tosh! I have had close to 30 different dash cams in the last 5 years, sometimes 3 in the windscreen at once. Left in my car all day everyday, not once has one been nicked. As for size. Not everyone needs discreetness, some people like a bulky design.

The only downside to using a phone as a dash cam is the auto focus. Dash cams have fixed focus, phone cameras can sometimes focus on the wrong thing

Not just any Sony sensor, the Sony IMX322 is the one to get for low light performance. DashCams that use this sensor include the SGZC12RC, SG9665GC, Panorama S, etc.

I don't really understand your point. There are at least 3 Transcend cams, the 100, 200, and the 220. This deal as posted was for the 220, NOT the 200, and neither the 100 or the 200 are old models, they simply have different specs.

People who think they're smart, should get their facts right in the first place!
