I saw this and was tempted but only thing that put me off was that it needed 2 USB ports

This is not shock resistant. I snuck up on one and went BOO and it broke.

It doesn't need two usb ports, it works just the same as any bus powered external drive.

only thing is the case may well be rugges but the hard disk inside isnt

Quick question it the extra usb cable used to power the device in none usb 3.0 ie 2.0

*StoreJet external hard drives are powered directly via your computer’s USB port. However, some computers may not be able to supply enough power by using just one USB port. If your StoreJet drive does not function properly, connect both ends of theUSB Y-cable to two USB ports on your computer to ensure the StoreJet drive receives sufficient power. Please also avoid using a USB HUB when connecting the StoreJet drive to your computer to avoid the possibility of insufficient power supply.

USB 3 spec provides more power than standard 2.0 ports although high power 1000mA 2.0 ports also exist, often highlighted with a different graphic.

Bought & heat added, perfect!

I love how the 640gb version is almost double the price

But, will it blend?

hot, thanks OP

Will this be able to store games for the ps3?

I have something similar but from Adata and I can't tell you how convenient these USB port powered external drives are! The old bulky things that require a separate power supply just made external drives painful to use but with 2.5" drives only needing 5V AND the performance of USB 3.0 (I get sustained 600-700mbps when imaging my main drive with Macrium Reflect) it's whole other world.

(just either use it to back something up or back it up)

A little apprehensive considering that Amazon until recently were stating 3 year warranty but have now downgraded it to the current 1 year, although Transcend still states 3 years.
Seems unusual that Amazon would actively downgrade the marketing blurb, which suggests Amazon may believe the 3 year warranty is unenforceable.

No. You need a 2.5 inch SATA drive for that. Pretty sure the PS3 can be pretty fussy about drives too.

Not a deal-breaker. Any HDD can be made BOOtable.

For a general consumer, is there really any need for a 'military-grade', 'shock resistant' hard drive?

In a word "Yes".
Non-Military personnel are just as likely to drop a hard drive.

Just saying...(_;)

Hasn't it been this price for months? That's how much I paid last month anyway.

Please feel free to take shots at me personally but there's no need to make fun of the disabled. Maybe its time you took that Roy Chubby Brown poster down from above your bed.

What a piece if crap lol
You can get 3tb for 80 pounds. No hard drive is 100 shockproof.
Royal mail can sort out your hard drive even before you will get it
Or Hermes especially lol

I remember a hard drive that was reviewed on Leo Laportes channel by that Padre guy. They actually took it out and shot it with guns and it survived. That's shock proof enough for me! I'll take the 3TB though and live with the risk of shocking it.

Something suspicious here on this one id say. Far from groundbreaking.

Never seem something have so much heat!!

Potato?

Why the heat??

This is currently the 9th hottest deal of all time. It is one pound cheaper than the £59.99 price tag it has had for the last three months.

This is insane.

One quick search and it is £56.50. Even then, it is nothing special.

Military Grade................ I the same way that writing 'Deluxe' on a box makes it better.

Why all the heat? Very suspicious.
