This is part of the Amazon lightning deals. This is the cheapest 256GB SSD I've seen so grab it quick whilst it lasts!

It's not in the same league as the samsung 840 EVO, but an SSD is an SSD and the difference in speed compared to a mechanical drive is fast!

Designed with multitasking power users in mind, the productivity-enhancing SATA III SSDs are the ideal upgrade solution for advanced multimedia computing and intense gaming.

Heat added. I went to post this deal as it was not showing under new deals. After posting, your deal showed up in the list Maybe a mod was approving your deal post. Anyway, I reported my one as spam.

This got quite a bit of heat earlier in the year when it cost quite a bit more.
Looks like a great price to me. Heat added!

Yeah, that's probably why I suppose. Thank's for posting anyways, it's nice to know that there's always going to be someone who posts a decent deal haha

Once this gets below £60 I'll be swapping my SSD!
Its cheap but i think id pay the extra and get the crucial as you know what your getting with that, Transcend is not that great of a name in my opinion a couple of years ago when big memory sticks were very expensive i had a 64gb transcend and within 12 months it failed, to be fair they did replace it but it took around 6 weeks before i received the replacement. That one time dealing with them has made me question there reliability and just lately their flash memory sticks are very cheap and having my 256gb boot drive fail to save £8 may not be the best thing, looking at how the prices have tumbled in the last couple of months it may only be a matter of time before they are a price that everyone can afford at least a 240gb drive at about £50 or £60, still more expensive than a HDD but better. For the time been i think i will stick with my Sandisk extreme, one point is at least its Amazon so replacement will be simple enough so its only hssle if it fails.

Have some heat for the price.

I was about to succumb to impulse buying and your comment has made me hesitate. A 3-year warranty isn't too shabby on the other hand..

Don't worry about it, there will always been examples of negative experiences with every type of drive. Same with any manufacturer and any computer component. Transcend are an established name in memory.

I bought a refurbished OCZ Vertex 2 over a year ago (a manufacturer and drive with a terrible reputation, and refurbished no less!) and it hasn't missed a beat. Use it as my gaming drive and it has been fine.

Just a thought.
not stupidly fast but a 3 year warranty is good, would work pretty well on older hardware that cant take advantage of sata 3 Heat from me
heat added, I was looking for a cheap SSD replacement for my aging hdd. One question, how difficult is to do the cloning? also do I need a special adapter (USB to SATA) to accomplish this?
Looks a decent deal - Heat

I'll echo what some have already said, yes you have brands like Crucial who are well renowned (i have one in my home rig) but equally ive had about 10 failures of a batch of 50 Crucials that i bought a few years a go to upgrade a suite of computers.

I wouldnt touch OCZ given my experience with their memory, yet arent MacBooks fitted with OCZ drives?

Hot deal in my opinion
Heat added. Just ordered, thanks for the heads up on the deal.

Prices really do seem to be dropping. When I first was looking to upgrade to an SSD (from my mechanical HDD) 120gb was within my budget but with these prices for 256gb I feel I've got a great deal.
£92 now.
spakkker

£92 now.

Add it to your basket, it will then show the £74.99 price.
i bought it for £89 last month and thought it was hot
Ordered for my microserver, complete overkill but the right £/gb.
Ordered this morning - good for 75 quid

i remember when ssds were over a pound per gig! wasn't even that long ago...
At this price, I dont care if it isn't the fastest. Great value per GB and a 3 year warranty - voted Hot.
Possibly not for use cases with heavy write activity (video transcoding etc.), but looks fine for average desktop/laptop use...
