This stuff shouldn't get near the general public.

self righteous knobs shouldn't get near the general public.

Will they deliver to my HMPS address in plain wrapping or even better embedded into a cake

These kits are brill for learning how locks work and understanding the concept of lockpicking. You won't become proficient playing with this stuff, but you will learn a lot. As for those saying it's rubbish - disagree. It's only rubbish because you get bored and realise it's not as easy as it looks.

If you're remotely interested in locks and how they work, treat yourself. They're a huge amount of fun, but don't expect to be able to open your houselocks after half an hour of fannying about.

A picklocking set...right

This stuff shouldn't get near the general public.

Great at starting part time night job.

Perfect for the apprentice burglar.

pair of cheap bolt cutters would do the job in seconds instead of this pile of junk, i have one, what a waste of money, they are just a novelty.

Bought something for £16 other day and was vat’d and charged admin over £12, anyone know the limit now for free vat?

Does this 'Skill Training' qualify for a students discount card?

It is only a bit of fun, I got one for myself last year. 10 mins entertainment at most.

An electric rake isn't much more than this and is a hell of a lot easier to get results.

A brick is free and even more failsafe. Maybe we should ban those.

Urrm, isn't that the point, it is a novelty item for people to learn how locks work, not a degree course in lock picking or a guide to DIY bank robbery.

Eeeeevening All ....

still a pile of junk, 10 mins full of sherry on christmas day then in the bin boxing day, the only thing you will have learnt is not to waste your money on Chinese poo.

Nah, these are just trash.

They only have one active lock pin, so you learn nothing useful about holding picked pins in place whilst working on the next.

Waste of money and frequently cheaper on Amazon.

Not as easy as it looks, who are you trying to kid? It is spectacularly easy. No need to try and be all superior and assume that people only got bored because they couldn't do it.

After seeing how it works (2-5mins), opening the lock (another 2-5mins) there really isn't much else going on. So after roughly 10mins of entertainment it is just another HUKD dust catcher. This is fine as long as people expect that, but don't try and market it as being a great journey of lock picking discovery.

You can learn considerably more by watching a 90 second Youtube video on locks.

This set was the start of my lock picking journey, so yes it can be. It's very cheap, so if someone doesn't like it that's fine.

Sub 30 mins of having the set I could pick every pin type lock in the house, it's shockingly easy. I then upgraded our house locks to ABS.

Useful? Yes. Farther in law lost the key to his small safe, standard Yale type lock. Locksmith wanted £80 to open it, took me 20s with this very set. That's a money saver!

If you're a burglar, a brick, lake of pliers or bump key is easier. Picking is more about craft/technique.

I have just looked on the Government link supplied by MrFizzy, and it states £39 for gifts, then when clicking on the 'Gift' link, supplied for further details, it states as below, which implies that if the goods are for personal use, then anything below £39.01 (including p&p) should be VAT free:-

To qualify as gifts, goods must be:
  • described as gifts on the customs declaration
  • for a birthday, anniversary or other occasion
  • bought and sent between individuals (not companies)
  • intended for personal use

This is not going to promote people picking locks to break in!! Has comedy value and a bit of fun. Heat added...... see on Christmas day who can open the lock the quickest.

Waste of money I'm afraid. Avocet ABS 3 Star can be picked in ~3 mins and they've been vulnerable for years to a very effective attack using a specific magnetic tool that can non-destructively open it in seconds (e.g. ABS magic opening tool by Lock Nsuper on youtube)

Off topic I know, but it's more as a deterrent. Like security cameras etc, the idea is someone moves on. If they really want to get in, they can regardless of anything short of fort Knox level security.
