Transpennine Express January Sale - 25% off advance train tickets

Found 3rd Jan 2014
Just had an email to say that Transpennine Express are offering 25% off tickets purchased in advance, if you click through on the link I've provided or tpexpress.co.uk/sale, as long as you book before 31st January, for travel from 4th January to 31st March (I've put all the terms below, anyway).

Might have to do a bit of messing about, as I've been trying to see if I can get tickets from Manchester to Liverpool and keep getting the "No fares have been found for your selected service." message

*Terms and conditions apply. The 25% discount is only available through tpexpress.co.uk/sale and relates to First TransPennine Express Advance Purchase fares only bought between 3 January 2014 and 31 January 2014. Advance purchase tickets bought via other parts of the website tpexpress.co.uk or other sales channels will not be subject to the 25% discount. Only valid for travel from 4 January 2014 up to and including 31 March 2014. Subject to availability, please buy in advance to avoid disappointment. Cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or promotion. Discount is only available on tickets routed TPE Only or TPE & Connections, not valid on any other types of tickets. For full terms and conditions please visit tpexpress.co.uk/sale

Advance Purchase tickets are calculated based on a comparison to buying on the day of travel, restrictions apply.

Due to limited availability and popularity of these tickets, please book early to avoid disappointment.

Haaaa... why are people voting cold? This website is badly full of cranks, I'm surprised any offers make it to any sort of heat status.

Anyway, just booked for two people to go from Manchester to York return for £28, so stick that up your cold pipe and smoke it.

just bought one, heat added.thanks op

Thanks. Just booked! Heat added.

This is a great offer - thanks for pointing it out! Saved me loads x

Ah damn. Literally booked advance tickets just before midnight last night.

I looked last night on the normal website and today with the sale link, there isn't any difference in price.

What I really want is an open return as I am coming back from Manchester Airport and could easily be delayed on the flight but there isn't any option for the monthly open return just gives a same day open return.

Is there a way of booking a monthly return?

The 25% sale is only off the TPE Advance - ie specific trains - and their specific SALE booking page seems to show ONLY TPE Advance tickets with the 25% off, whereas their main booking form offers any available.

Ordinary returns are only available on some routes, and often not on SHORTISH routes.
You can use the BRFARES website to explore what fares are applicable for any particular station-station ticket.
brfares.com
SOMETIMES you can find it cheaper to buy a return from a more remote station as MOST allow for a "break of journey" and you could "break your journey" at your normal "home" station.
For those regular returns I don't THINK that TPE offer discounts on their own fares for booking via their own website (unlike their 25% off TPE Advances over a particular period, booked during a certain window), so you may prefer to use another site that eg offers £back via TopCashBack/Quidco - eg RedSpottedHanky where you could also double up some Tesco Clubcard points to pay towards the railfare (and no booking or postage fees unlike some rip-off sites!).

Thanks for the link, it seems a monthly return would be £62, one way tickets, about £8 - £12 each, looks like I'll risk it booking a specific train and hope the flights are on schedule.

What I did last time I landed at Birmingham International was have a Virgin Advance valid for about 1hr20m after the plane was DUE to land. Actually landed about 20 minutes early so I was on the platform in time for the hourly train before and was able to ask the train manager if it was OKay for me to get on his earlier train and he said 'get on' and when he came round checking tickets said it was really good to be asked (worst he could have said is NO = where I was already)!

No difference for me. Got the email. Waste of time.

I did Sheffield - Manchester and return for £2.95 each way on Wednesday, can't say fairer than that.

Thankyou, I have just saved £10 on my journey.
