Travel by coach this summer for £9 @ National Express

Found 21st Jun 2011
This summer when you book 14 days in advance national express are offering coaches for £9 each way throughout the uk excluding airports .On looking i have found that on the list of services for each route at least one coach is priced at £9 on the days timetable each way .Better still for The over 60,s and the disabled the £9 fares are reduced by 50% making them just £4.50 one way . Cheaper than a gallon of petrol/diesel . Before booking It is worth checking prices though because on some routes there may be funfares available cheaper. But for most long distance cross country routes the £9 price will be unbeatable. Savings of over £65 can be made against normal fare (eg:aberdeen to swansea 21/07/11.£75 single standard fare v Promotional fare £9 single

Nice deal, cheaper than driving and not bad on comfort either. Don't use them as much since i got my railcard.

And its £4.50 if you are over 60 or disabled.

i like how they exclude airports just because they damned well please.

@portmanteau i agree but having a mate who is a nx driver is handy he passed on a few tips how to get round it. EG: say you want to travel bristol to heathrow book from bristol to bournemouth as you have to change at heathrow as part of this route.therefore enabling you to travel to an airport legitimately. Also my driver friend informs me that any south walians or bristolians wishing to use this method to travel to gatwick should book for brighton as most brighton journeys neccesitate a change of coach at gatwick.

And then how do you get back?

@portmanteau book it in opposite direction eg bournemouth to bristol as i said above most south wales/bristol to southcoast services require a change of coach at heathrow/gatwick . Therefore this change enables you to alight or join at heathrow. To avoid having to keep answering this i will post an example.using swansea to bournemouth

Service 201
depart
12:30 Swansea 16:50 HEATHROW AIRPORT LONDON (for T1 & T3) FK201

depart
18:15 HEATHROW AIRPORT LONDON (for T1 & T3) 20:35 BOURNEMOUTH (Coach Station) FK205

so to sum it up you would travel on the swansea to heathrow portion of the journey and not bother using the heathrow to bournemouth portion of the ticket

yes, but you can't get the heathrow to bournemouth for 9 pounds.. that's my point. this trick only works one way.

why do people vote a load of crap hot and then decent deals struggle to get heat.

how do you get it to work as it didnt change when i went to purchase my ticket?
