Can I just point out that BA (for example) have a 23KG limit on luggage. So how is a scale that stops at 22KG going to be of use. I mean you'll know if you are at least 1KG under, but not if you are 1K or 5K or whatever over. Surely they should go up to 30KG. Then you'd have a better idea if you were over and by how much.

90% of companies only allow 20kg - so for 'most' people these would suffice

exactly what i was thinking i take normally 25kg

I got these same ones free last year when I bought some fishing tackle from a tackle shop. No wonder they give them away..totally inaccurate and will give you a serious mis-read of your true weight. Buy the small digital scales off ebay from Hong Kong instead, accurate within grams...voted cold

90% of companies state 20KG but won't charge till 23-25KG (including lowcost carriers). I'm just saying that it would have made more sense to make it handle 30KG. Then you'd get a better idea how much to take out of your bulging bag (uh err misses) when it weighs in at 27KG.

I generally just stick my suitcase on my digi bathroom scales. Measures down to 0.1kg.

Obviously not a good solution for fishing but work fine for travelling.

Got some from Poundland, can't remember the weight.

but the reason to have one of these is not for going but for coming back. we went to florida and took 3x15KG suitcases but came back with 4x22KG!

Most companies set their overread the weight anyway, so your 20kg reads as 22kg. Then if you are over at say 22kg, which reads 24kg, they can point to it and say "look, you are well over". That way there's less chance of argument and its much harder for you to redistribute items to come in under their reported 20kg - so you end up giving them even more money.

The better scheduled airlines flying UK to USA, last time I checked, allow 2 x 70lb bags (Americans don't travel light), which is a stonking 31.8 kilos - much more like it for British shopaholics, especially those with a penchant for books! So, in these instances, scales that go beyond that weight would be useful.

You are claiming airport wide conspiracies by carriers are you? Proof please.

A similar scale I bought for a fiver from TJ Hughes recently claims to go upto 32Kg.

Poundstretche/Instore also sell these for £4 up to 34kg/75lbs, and mine was perfectly accurate.
