This set includes both albums by the supergroup to end all supergroups, The Traveling Wilburys. Featuring Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty, this material is packed full of wonderfully crafted melodies. Includes the tracks 'Handle With Care', 'Last Night' and 'She's My Baby'.

The music of supergroup the Traveling Wilburys was never meant to be taken too seriously. And perhaps because of this, the records had fallen completely out of print by the mid 1990s, a shocking occurrence for a triple platinum band. Rhino Records came to the rescue, however, with this fantastic set that includes not only both proper Wilbury albums (VOL. 1 and VOL. 3), but a handful of bonus tracks from each session, a DVD with all the videos and behind-the-scenes footage, and detailed liner notes.
The meat of the order here is definitely the first disc, TRAVELING WILBURYS, VOL. 1, a certified masterpiece with five legends at the top of their game. Roy Orbison's "You're Not Alone Anymore" may be his finest performance since the '60s; Harrison's "Handle With Care" is as good as any solo Beatle hit; and Tom Petty's "Last Night" shows why he belongs rubbing shoulders with Orbison, a Beatle, and Dylan. Disc 2 features their follow-up record, TRAVELING WILBURYS, VOL. 3, and while it still holds up, the material is not quite as strong as on VOL. 1 (sadly, Roy Orbison, for one thing, had passed away by this point). There are still some gems, though, mostly from Petty: the country stomp "Poor House," the longing "New Blue Moon," and the lightly confused "Inside Out." Disc 3 is a DVD featuring complete music videos and a short behind-the-scenes documentary about the supergroup. This is a must-have for fans of the band and of the legends that comprise it.

The supergroup to end all supergroups, the Traveling Wilburys, formed in 1988, after George Harrison enlisted the production talent of Jeff Lynne who was simultaneously working with Roy Orbison. Using Bob Dylan's garage to rehearse in, the trio were joined by Dylan's neighbour Tom Petty and finally by Dylan himself. The end result was not a Harrison b-side but a full album, VOLUME 1, from the newly christened, Traveling Wilburys. The album proved to be a major success, bringing out the best of each artist, and was a marvellous swan song for Roy Orbison who tragically died soon afterwards. The remaining members reunited for the deliberately erroneously titled VOLUME 3 in 1990, but the death of Harrison, in 2001, precluded the possibility of a genuine third full-length. A triple package of their albums, with extra tracks and DVD footage, was released in 2007 and shot to the top of the UK charts.

Are you sure its rare, looks common to me

Yes it is rare; you seen the stock levels and prices at the places listed in the OP

Probably about as 'rare' as all the earlier CD special editions. They just keep putting out new special editions.

That said, it's great stuff for Wilbury fans - and for anyone else who appreciates the fine tracks they made. Collectors edition or not, it's still a fantastic series of albums, probably never bettered.

I know it is, but it's still just another special edition. The originals, published years back, are valuable, but these are just reprints. A bit like comparing the Mona Lisa with a print. Stiil great tracks, though. ;-)

Great deal.

Ordered the CD version with bonus DVD last week after seeing them on BBC 4 but you cant beat good 'ol Vinyl!

From the official Wilbury site:

The limited-edition box features three LPs pressed on 180-gram HQ vinyl from RTI, with lacquers cut by acoustech mastering’s Kevin Gray.

The deluxe linen-bound box also includes a color booklet, poster and set of postcards.

Neither of these editions shows the print run - they rarely do. The deluxe edition will probably be produced in smaller numbers, but neither edition will ever be worth much, simply because they're being produced, like the CD 'limited editions' in such vast numbers.

Enjoy the music, but don't expect it to increase in value.

A nice touch....ie outlining *all* the band member names in the subject heading. Just as well it wasn't a hot deal involving the Welsh Male Voice Choir.

excellent price...now if you can just find bootleg series No Direction Home vinyl for same price...
