An interesting app that allows you to Identify trees by their bark, twigs, buds, leaves, flowers or fruit. Now that we are beginning to come out of our houses to enjoy the fresh air and nature, it might come in handy to learn a bit about the flora around us.

An interactive British tree identification app from the Woodland Trust, the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity. In just a few steps, you can identify native and common non-native trees in the UK, whatever the season.

Use our free Tree ID app for Android and iPhone to identify the UK's native and non-native trees. It's an A-Z tree guide in your pocket.

Google Lens has identified every piece of foliage I've tried it on, even really obscure stuff lens.google.com/

Does it just identify trees, or will it identify shrubberies?

Not sure, but PlantNet can, including flowers and leaves as well
It’s always been free, had it for years

All these apps are rubbish. when it comes to identifying plants, you have to decide which is the apps best guess

I've been really impressed with Lens on our lockdown walks. The kids know every tree and shrub in our local woods
No! simply because in the thumbnail photo shows a nice healthy leaf, obviously cutoff the tree. If every single one would cutoff a leaf to take a picture... the promoted monstrosity!

I agree. I wonder how long before Google's AI becomes sentient?

I'm just less comfortable using Google for everything. Plus you get to learn how to identify yourself, like what leaf features to look for, rather than how to ask the great computer.

You’re assuming it’s not sentient already and just very well-behaved.

I think companies either post on here or pay to post on here to advertise their products/apps and HUKD try to pull a blatant blinder on us. Like you said it's free (& always has been), not a deal - should be listed on 'Freebies', not deals. But deals gets more clicks as it's on the homepage. Just my thoughts!
Mine’s just identified the US president as a plank of wood. Nice piece of programming.

Just tried this on an office plant I inherited and had no idea what it was, seemed to work after going through the steps, started pestering about created a login though which I couldn't be bothered with so uninstalled.
Does it know what Morning Wood is?

I had no idea I even had Google lens, let alone what it did, was filed with all the other supposed junk apps that I never use like "hangouts"

Thanks!
I am assuming vegans use this app to find food?

For plants I have the PictureThis app on iPhone. It's quite good. Did try Google Lens in the past wasn't fully satisfied.

I couldn't find Google Lens on the iOS App Store - using my iPhone XR. Could you post a link, please? I've used the app on Android and I really liked it. Thanks!

Google Lens is a part of the Google official search iOS app. You will see the Lens option inside the search bar next to the Mic.

Thanks, that makes sense! Sort of wish they had it as a separate app but no biggie.
