rebranded Iota Slim. Nuff said.
I'm deliberating on whether to make this purchase. Let me know what you think. How does this compare to the Teclast, Jumper and Chuwi?

As far as I'm aware, this is a German brand and reviews are very few on the ground and in German. CPUBoss doesn't recognised the N4000. I know this is a Celeron but would this be good enough to play 4K?

Also would I be able to sell the MS Office 365 licence to recoup some of the cost. I'm thinking a 256GB SSD, not sure what size but probably be a 2242.
Looks good - recently bought a similar machine (AIWO 737A1 at GB), stuck in a 240GB ssd (£40 at amazon) & quite happy. Drivers a bit troublesome in a fresh Win10 install on SSD - anyone know how to 'suck' them from the eMMC install to the SSD one? Windows activated automatically (YMMV).

If Office 365 has value to you (to use or sell), this is pretty sweet.
For £20 on ebuyer you can get a better processer, take over the N4000 anyday

I believe that my one is a rebranded Jumper 3 pro - $200 at GB (was $5 off that yesterday - that may return on Monday). Mine does not have page up/down which is annoying! Anyone know if you can define new 'fn' key combinations? I know I remapped in the depths of Windows right shift to down when that key broke before.

With office 365 & option to add SSD?
Is this any good? I need a laptop for my daughter in this sort of price range but not many look any good specwise. This dont look to bad to me once adding an ssd. She will want it for the usual, homework, youtube/videos, and possibly odd games.
If anyone could let me know if it would be any good or possible downfalls please let me know. Thanks in advance

You can get the better model of this for £20 more with quad core pentium n4200. Look for linx ultra slim Here at Tesco eBay

Look high and low but mention of the M2 SSD slot on that as 64GB is not enough. If all things being the same I agree yours would be a better buy.

Mainly for eBay and office work and some occasional Light gaming. For the price it’s an excellent laptop. All metal with a lovely screen.

I just did a search for the Link Ultraslim and it has been cheaper than this earlier in the month.

Cheers I only know about the Teclast and Jumper Ebook but didn't feel like importing from China and always wondered where the UK equivalent models were. I think I'll wait until the price goes back down again.

Most schools need Chromebook now . I would suggest Acer R11 or Acer R13

Every thread about a windows laptop you come in with the chrome book comment. Do you even have a school aged child? I do and a windows machine is preferable to a chrome book which I also own.

It depends how "trendy" your daughter is, but at this price point, used Thinkpads on eBay are a good alternative. They're obviously business orientated so aren't sleek and thin and all that, but a 3rd gen i5 will out perform modern Celerons. (With a bit of excess heat though!) The HDD and RAM are easily easily upgrade-able and batteries can be found all over the place so charging isn't an issue.

Just make sure to use a reputable seller... There are a few.

And remember it's used but was worth over £1000 when new.

Just an alternative, feel free to ignore.

I love Chromebooks. I also teach Comp Sci in schools and visit many to support trainee teachers. I've never seen a Chromebook in a school. A PC is more appropriate and what can't a child do on a PC that they could on a Chromebook?
The only think that puts me off these re-branded models was/is the driver support.
I returned a Tesco Linx one a while back, really liked it, but straight away I did a fresh/clean install and Windows didnt pick up a lot of the drivers in device manager. Searched around online with no luck, so not an option for me to keep it.
horsepills25/11/2018 21:18

Do you have proof of this?

My niece attends a Google school where parents are asked to provide Chromebooks. Homework is on the cloud and all students use G Suite for education. Windows laptops are not welcome. These schools do exist (I work with lots of schools and I've yet to come across one in my area that insists on Chromebooks!)

I didn't say these schools didn't exist. I was challenging the suggestion that "most schools need chromebook now". My kids' primary school certainly doesn't

Semi-historical thread, but the sensible pre clean install precaution / solution is still valid: boozet.org/dd.htm
