TriStar HD Satellite Kit £40 in store @ B&Q

Found 4th Mar 2012
Just picked up a set of HD satellite kit from my local B&Q for £40, reduced from 59.99. There are six or seven units left when I left.

The store is Manchester Cheetham Hill.

In the box are
HD satellite receiver, with USB port for TV recording and playback. (external USB stick or HDD required.)
60cm dish
HDMI cable
One LNB
Wall bracket and fixings
10m coaxial cable
Two F Type connectors
Weather boot
Cable clip

One more note: To get the BBC ONE HD, BBC HD, etc., make sure to do a blind search instead of automatic search in channel settings.

Sorry guys, forgot to mention the store is Manchester Cheetham Hill branch.

I was looking at buying one of these a few weeks ago, but in the end went with the Sky deal, which works out the same over 12 months, then cancel, and keep the kit, they have now reduced the offer to £101 topcashback, and £50 M&S vouchers, so effectively £90 for a year, but the dish etc is "professionally" fitted, and you get sky/sky+ for a year.

You don't, just tell them to point the dish to Astra 19.2°E & walla, free Formula 1 & free German lessons.

doh!!!!!!not if you fit it yourself schmuck

Normally the B+Q kits are not freesat certified... meaning you can use them to pick up any free channels but its not as easy to setup. (possibly no epg too). If it has freesat on the box then its as easy as setting up freeview box.

If you're going to try to be clever, it helps not to post the same comment twice.

The deal was that with sky on the £20 a month deal you got £100 cashback (quidco) and £100 in m&s vouchers. That got you free installation, free box (mine was a free sky+hd with 3d box) for £240 for the year (12x£20). So £100 cash, £100 M&S vouchers which if you buy food like I do will save you a few bob, it costs you £40. Not as clear cut because £100 value of cash back is vouchers but still, you dont have to do it yourself and you get sky channels free for a year!

Cheers

Isnt F1 Free on the BBC??

sorry guys! LOL didnt watch it because none of the 3 companies i contacted have replied about fitting the dish for me. i've tried a few more & hopefully will have it done for this weekend.

Check this website to find out which free ("in the clear") channels this box can pick up.

OP you'd probably get a lot more heat if you added FREE F1 to the title.

the back of the box lists loads but it also says to check lynsat.com for up to date list.

this list is tv channels (different option for radios) that are free for the uk, but i think you'll only get the ones on 28E. well i assume anyway!

Is this any good for getting free football on european channels?

Beware, B&Q Ross kits have an error with geometry of antenna, hence are really hard to set up prioperly. They are notorious with installers asked to set up kit provided by cusatomer. To set up correctly you need to move feed closer to reflector by about 6 cm. Ross know this issue well. Indeed Rss kit was discontinued is now old stock.

Any idea if this satellite dish + receiver combo can receive foreign FTA channels assuming I position the dish accordingly? Cheers.

if you point it at 28e, then you will only get the fta uk channels. if you point it at a different sat (ie 19.2 e, 13e etc) then you should be able to get fta channels from that sat.

No you don't

can't be that hard to set up. I have the Ross Dish and have 3 lnbs on it 13e 19.2e & 28.2e and I'm no satellite engineer

my uncle got a ross setup he picked up last year - he just used the sat box and left the dish as he had a old dish up.

I got him a 1M dish for about 30 bucks brand new and this easter we will be adding 4 lnbs to that.

At the moment its hit and miss as he has put it up on the clothes line pole - great in the wind!

but he has been watching free footie games in god knows what language 'zulu' I think.

He does not care as long as there is some footie on

You only need a licence if you USE equipment to watch television LIVE. You don't need a licence simply to own a piece of capable equipment, however much the licensing agency might like you to believe you do.

You seem to be contradicting yourself. If you point this dish at a european sat which airs free football, surely this constitutes getting 'free football on european channels'. However, my knowledge is limited, so please fill in the gaps!

there is very little free football being broadcast in europe, and no free premier league football being broadcast in europe. so i'm not contradicting myself, i said you should be able to get fta european channels. i never said any of these fta channels aired football. football in europe is the same as here, it is broadcast in each country on their pay service ie sky italia, sky germany, canal plus etc which all require a subscription just like a subscription to sky in the uk.
