There is a filter on the cold water inlet check your user manual or google the model number to find out how to clean it.
I have an elctric shower at the mo but the water isn't very strong comign out of it. Am I right in thinking a higher kw will mean more pressure? Ta

Higher kW will mean it can heat the water quicker so you get a much better rate of water flow from it.

We used to sell 7 kW showers and in Scotland they are basically useless in Winter. I'm not sure how good an 8.5 will be but if your current shower is struggling in Summer when the water coming into your house is a lot warmer than in winter then it sounds like a plan to upgrade. I'd suggest the biggest power rating available, £55 for a 10.5 kWh sounds like a good idea.

The kw rating will heat up the water at a higher flow rate so I would say no if flow rate is the problem
Check your supply cable is up to the job before installing a higher wattage shower.
