The electric shower is the worst thing in the world. Hate it so much. No proper pressure, hot-cold water..
I'm in the market for a new shower unit , what do you reccomend?

Buy the highest kW shower you can afford... Argos have some that perform well for around £100 but it all depends on your entry points for water and power.

anyhting above 10KW.

8.5KW will be cold in winter unless you just want a trickle of water coming out!
I bought the 9.5Kw version of this shower and it works very well good staedy temp and powerful stream ........ have heard the 8.5Kw is a little cold in the winter.
As combi boilers are a required standard in houses, why are electric showers still being sold? The power of a combi boiler is far greater than any electric shower you'll likely find and provides greater pressure.
Electric showers are cheap and even cheap ones can maitain even temperature fairly well.

To get good temperature regulation from a boiler fed shower requires a much more expensive unit.

During winter, the incoming water supply is colder
therefore a low powered electric shower will still reach the desired temperature, but at lower water pressure.
So get the highest one u can afford.

Also
I'm not sure, but i don't think there is any difference in running costs, as 8kw and 13kw would still be reaching the desired temperature

Good point,
but a lot of existing houses still have old boilers, so replacing them with new one for an extra shower is not feasible.
or when you have multiple showers in a household , then running them all off one boiler might not be possible.

Great until your boiler breaks down, at least with an electric shower in house you can in theory still have hot water to wash in, unless of course it's really not your day and they both go together

...and if just the electric goes your boiler pump wont work.... (but i guess you could shower with whats left in the hot water tank)

Eh? No requirement for a combi boiler. A combi boiler is no good in a large house with several bathrooms, or if your cold water supply flow rate is not good - which won't help with electric showers either, of course.

The running costs for the 13Kw shower will be higher. The water is at the same temperature, but the volume of water being used is greater so more power is required to heat it. If you turn the volume down on the 13Kw shower to the level of flow from the 8.5Kw the costs would be the same, but the whole point of the higher wattage shower is to have a higher flow in winter.

What are you on about?! Ever thought that your shower doesnt work properly. Electric showers are the best for consistent heat delivery.

ah ok, so i need a new shower. so rather than spend £200 on an electric shower like we did, ill go and change my perfect fine boiler in my house which will cost i guess £2000. brilliant advice.

if i need a new tyre ill just replace the car

blimey where do you live - on an island in scotland?
Royals - if you have a "perfectly fine" boiler, why do you need an electric shower to heat your water?
Radishnet - best argument ever. Get an electric shower because your boiler is screwed if you have a power cut.
pibpob - yeah, I got mixed up with a condensing boiler. Condensing boilers are a requirement if it's a new/replacement installation, combis aren't.

I've used electric showers and I find them horrible. Water tank + pump is my preferred, otherwise a combi does well enough.
Can anyone please advice if this shower with an integrated pump?
Thanks
There is no pump.
This will connect directly to your main water supply. So the maximum pressure will be whatever pressure your house receives mains water.

Of course, once the water is heated and runs through the heat exchanger the pressure is dropped.

You could connect it to your internal water tank, but the cost of adding a pump, along with the additional plumbing would be a lot of hassle.

For the record, I use a 7Kw and in the Winter on a high setting, the water is very very hot. In fact, when I turn it to the max setting, in Winter, the water is scolding, albeit at very low flow rate.
this shower is best…

no pump, no heating, no boiler, no electricity needed.

Same here. Coal fire with a back burner that supplies the hot water and heating to the house.

Our Triton electric shower has failed on us now annoyingly. As soon as we pull the cord it trips the whole house Suspected it was on its way out last winter when we had to run the cold tap in the sink on full just to get warm water through the shower. Should have got it sorted then grrr.

I don't think you can use electric showers on pumped systems.

Well yes, of course it will be, but if the flow rate is so low as to be unusable then it's pointless.
