To revive 'dead' batteries all you need is a tiny voltage across them, which can be achieved with a paperclip and a battery you know charges fine. Done this loads of times over the years.

This charger isn’t perfect. If you have batteries that are completely discharged, this will not charge them.
The smart function identifies them as dead batteries.
If I stick them in a dumb charger for 5 mins then transfer them back to this, it works fine.
Now if anyone knows of a better solution or product, I’m all ears.

Not had an issue with Tronic batteries. The C are proper 4,000mAh and the D 4,500. Unlike most Duracell, a AA in D shell. Only criticism is Tronic batteries are fat.

Totally crap. This tells you your batteries are charged when they're not and then won't charge them.
Only had positive experiences with amazon rechargables after switching from the 7dayshop one

would recommend personaly

It told me they were charged but put them in another charger and they charged fine. It was annoying.

The Tronic batteries are very poor, or at least the ones I tried. They lost a significant amount of their capacity in 6-12 months and self discharge very quickly.

However the charger I have seems very good. It’s a delta peak charger not some basic trickle charger. If you use cheap rechargeables then I would expect they are the problem. I’ve used many Enerloop and Duracell rechargeables and not had any problems.

I think all smart chargers have the same issue; I don't see an issue with your workaround other than it takes a bit of time.

fyi fast charging batteries generally shortens their life.
Yes, Some handy info; Will have to get a basic charger to test all the batteries that fancy electronic charger says is faulty and won't charge.

will try this. if it works you are a hero
I have the previous model, they were supposedly rebadged ansmann units. Super happy with mine except it takes an hour or two to charge an AA battery.
Good charger but wish it had a cover to stop dust getting in.

Yeah not interested in fast charging. I have lots of rechargeable batteries, so have spares. It’s just irritating that smart, doesn’t include trying a 2 min boost, to then refresh.

Ah, I’ve had some success. Fitting a good battery, then whipping it out and quickly fitting the bad.
Also tried a shirt across the battery but never tried shorting across 2 positives. That’ll be my next hack.

No on some batteries it would work ok on others not.

Fair enough, it works pretty good anyway, although I would also prefer some type of temperature sensor for the odd naughty battery.

Yep! I've got an old model too, its a pretty decent charger, although I now mainly use a 7dayshop smart charger which has a battery capacity test mode and recovery mode.

I know this way of getting batteries charged sometimes works (dumb charger). But often I find that the battery which wouldn't charge has an underlying fault. That is it doesn't hold normal capacity. Gone through this process countless times. Now got a charger that measures capacity. After going through dumb, Lidl, new (chargers) usually find battery has no capacity.

It’s done it in batteries I know are true. However it’s also done it in batteries on their first full charge, after being used. Then go on to be fine.

Smart chargers, try to hard at being smart.

Another method that works well for me is to put a good battery on charge, wait for the charger to finish its initial voltage test and to start charging, then flip the good battery out and very quickly pop the dead one in, before the charger detects the battery was removed.

Works on my lidl charger and on my 7dayshop one, unless the dead battery is very bad indeed (has become reverse charged), in which case I use a couple of coins to short it to a charged battery.

However having become tired of them i switched to std batteries i found the same thing happening

Sorry...what?
I have got it for a while and not so happy with it. Many more demanding toys won't accept my rechargeables as if they are not charge enough, but then again no wonder when tronic battery charger is telling me that battery is fully charged in less than 30 min...
Had it for like a year and half and like 99% of the things bought from Lidl, its brill. Another tip to revive dead batteries is to put a working battery alongside the dead one on a metal surface which will cover bottom MINUS. Then you get another metal surface and put on the top of both to cover PLUS. Few secs and the battery will be ready to be charged.

With this lidl one say you put 4 AA's batteries. One could be at 10%, other 13%, 5% and 2%. It will treat them all individually. That charger you mentioned will damage the batteries in time because it does not recognise them individually but as a block of four. So will force all to be charged from nothing to 100% essentially damaging them.
I have the older model too and i've had no problems at all Heat added as its a good price

Its not crap.

It works and I have revived a dozen Makita batteries in the same way.

Some of these batteries have safety features and can fall asleep if the battery becomes fully discharged.

A quick spike in volts always wake them up

This does work and will cause no harm to batteries
