£10.99 for something like this isn't bad at all. I think the only thing that is a deal breaker for me is where the volume and power is located and how it's USB powered. Not expecting audiophile quality but I suppose it will be good for basic audio needs.

Nonetheless, not a bad price at all.

Check the pictures they are mains powered, I would be really surprised that you could drive any 2.1 speakers out of USB port. And the volume I usually set it quiet loud on the cabinet and then just adjust desired level on laptop.

And no I don't work for Trust. Trust nobody!

Amy idea whether volume control is via a turnable knob or button? Old style knob is the best

It's a knob on the back, along with a simple on/of switch.

These are not mains powered, there's a USB for the sub, and an audio jack (my son has one for when he is not gaming with headphones on his pc) and they aren't actually bad, at the price they are at its well worth it!

Fair enough. I was mainly going off what the OP had put in the description but thanks nonetheless

I just pasted the details off Amazon, i must admit i did find it a bit odd that given the size of them & the sub it was powered from a usb tbh.

Definitely not mains powered, and they look much bigger than they actually are out the box.

I only got my son a set just in case he wanted the option of watching movies on his pc (monitor speakers aren't great) but as it's a gaming pc, all he does I'd use his headset 99.9% of the time!
It's mainly me that uses these with my laptop or netbook for music, as they are portable enough to take from room to room without much hassle at all. Bargain when I bought them from argos, and even cheaper now! Can't go wrong really.

Yes thanks gemmac i can see they're usb powered now. Cheers.

can u connect this to the plasma tv

Read some of the amazon reviews. Some people really don't understand that a USB powered subwoofer isn't going to shake the room. It's like asking a RC helicopter to airlift. Good cheap product for light use but not designed for an home cinema experience. Heat added.

Even if you can, you might be a bit disappointed with the results!!

Not brilliant but not bad for what they are. Can be run off the mains with a USB charger obviously, if you wanted to plug them into a phone/mp3 player etc.

I think its USB OUT only....

Not sure what you mean by that?

I actually bought this a week ago. It's not too bad considering the price but I wouldn't be expecting much bass from it. Decent for watching TV shows/movies with but not much of a music system

I own these speakers and trust me you get way more than you pay for.

These speakers are USB powered I can confirm.

What's the bass like on these?
Was planning on using these solely as a cheap subwoofer to go with my current BX5 D2's.
I don't want them to ruin the sound quality so just wanted them to add some power in the lower frequencies.

id look at the logic range as well although this is a great price - connected to my ipod classic my logic sounds as good or close to a similar bose set up although its bigger or course....£16:99 vs £200+ .......oO

20 watt (10 watt RMS)

From a 5v 500mA USB socket? that is 2.5 Watts of power....

Just tried it and, yes.

Edit: Just to clarify...

Power input = USB
Audio input = 3.5mm Jack

So you can use these with anything that has a 3.5mm socket.

if you wanna like at a physical sample go to your local pcworld/curry store, they also have it on display and for testing, but the price is greater than this deal

Thanks for clearing. Might get these!

Well worth it, worth close to double in my opinion. After adjusting your sound levels etc. In Windows settings you will be extremely pleasantly surprised. More than you are going to need in most cases. Don't forget to adjust those levels!

Have these too connected to my htpc and it's fine for movies and footy I stream on it, it's basic but good value for the money.

These are good for upgrading the sound on a small tv, PC monitor etc. Decent sound for the price

i bought these at argos for much more money and im really happy with them! tempted to bag another set just for backup. I swapped the subwoofer for a more powerful 'basier' effect and it worked like a charm! used my labtech subwoofer from an old speaker set I bought 6yrs ago

cold for me - my Bose lifestyle V25 system would walk all over this

If you can stretch to £30 you can likely pick up a Cambridge Audio amp and some decent bookshelf speakers second hand on Gumtree etc. and it'd sound so much better. Probably last you longer too.

Rated power handling for the speakers isn't the same as actual power used though

Yeah - I had to do the same...
The satellites are OK but the "woofer" is nearly worthless.
I'll spend more next time.

The old PMPO/RMS scam innit

End of the day these kick out a good few db for their size and you wouldn't want to run them full volume @1m for very long.

Except it does state 10W RMS which should be a more accurate reflection of the power requirement. Even if it was 20W peak output that's still a hell of a lot of power to draw from a USB port even for a split-second, you stand the risk of blowing it.

U can get usb plugs that will output excess of 2amp so the speakers CAN draw more power. You may not get the stated RMS from a computer/laptop USB which are 500ma

They are USB powered indeed, I have 2 sets of them. Sound quality leaves a lot to be desired, I'd say my phone's built in speaker almost sounds better. Obviously I didn't expect much from something at this price point, and yet somehow I'm still disappointed. Still - that's just me, may suit someone else very nicely.
