Jules_HT

Sorry HSBC not RBS, keyboard got ahead of me. Nationwide is better for being RAF, no? Doubles the money. You'd think most people could find a friend with a Nationwide acc (I had two and had to get them to toss a coin for the £100). Halifax was £100 when I did it, is £75 now. At least TSB was quick and easy- all done on the website in about 10 mins, switched 2 weeks later. My RBS switch is taking forever - 3 weeks and counting and all I've received is a letter to give them my sig and a debit card (no letters, no online banking stuff, no account numbers or sort codes) and then I have to do the switch separately after it's done (within 2 weeks of the account opening, I think). At least I don't have to go into a branch like I did with Nationwide...

wildecat

RBS switching offer? I've not seen it. Nationwide is RAF not straightforward RAF. Halifax is £75 That said, if it was only a savings account they will usually honour the switching offer if you call them up as their systems just detect that you had a previous account ( names and DOB) I'm guessing.

Standard tesco savings accounts allow you to set up direct debits from your own other accounts meaning you can easily set up four different savings accounts and meet the criteria.

4 direct debits in my eyes is equivalent to 2 new standard accounts as most only require 2 D.D set up. This therefore means for me even the £150 wasn't enough for me to try switching to co op

This has been around ages. Had my account with TSB almost a year now and have been getting the £5 contactless payment around the 19th of each month, 5% interest paid on the first £2000 in the account paid on the 1st of the month also. They also had a 5% regular saver account linked to this and a 1% cashback credit card, and even better when I switched to TSB for this offer I also received £150 switching bonus thou I don't think they offer that anymore. Overall a really good deal, even thou my contactless offer finishes soon.

Wanted to move my Current, Savings and Business bank accounts to them. Applied online and got paperwork in the post. Went to my local branch and sat around for 2 hrs and eventually walked out. There was no one at the first desk near the entrance and 10 mins. later a guy comes and says his colleague is on lunch and will be back in 30 mins. 30 mins. later , they see someone else ( who may have made an appointment ) and I just kept sitting there. I got home and called them numerous times to arrange an appointment and no one frikking picks up the phone. Do I want such a useless bank to handle my finances, hell not!

I contacted them through their website and never heard anything besides the automated 'thank you for contacting us'. I then used Resolver to email a complaint and got a call the next day.

CheapLife

I filed a complaint and received a call telling me that I already had an account when I applied for my second one through moneysupermarket and that is why I didn't get the £100. When I opened my first TSB account in 2014 you were allowed to have several but they changed the ts and cs so you can only have one sole and one joint. So my rebuttal was why was I allowed to open a second sole account? Surely I should have been prompted to open a joint account instead? There was no mention of closing the 2nd sole account, only that it was the reason I didn't get the £100.

The great thing with this after 5 years you can change the deal with no exit fees if you can find a better deal if rates have gone up you can stay on the rate for the extra 5 years

eslick

Wouldn't say anyone coming off a cheap rate has missed the low times plenty of low fixed out there at the moment and a 10 year rate of 2.9% grated with the fee but you need to do the maths which probably beats this. Some very low 2 year fixed at the moment have just been released which seems to suggest the banks think it's going to be low still for a while, most think through 2015 at least.

MITTY121

I'm on a lifetime 2.39% above base. So I think I will stick through the elections as if I moved I would want a longer term than 5 years. Don't want to product hop but may have to if rates increase

Dwatkeys83

Base rate still 0.5% But you can guarantee after general elections this will start to creep up. I know BOE are the ones deciding and advising but it's a long time coming. But anyone who is coming out of a fixed deal now has missed the low times and a low long term fixed deal is something to mull over. Nice post OP Voted HOT

Reminder appreciated. Thank you.

Just a reminder, from tomorrow 04/01/2017 the interest rate drops to 3% (from 5%) and only on balances up to £1,500, so you may be wanting to find a new home for your (now spare) £500 (or £1k if you had two accounts) and were just taking advantage of the interest payments. You should have received a letter from TSB on the above last year, but lots in the press too.... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/personal-banking/savings/savers-second-blow-in-24-hours-tsb-cuts-classic-plus-rate-from-5/ If you opened your account at the time this post was made, your 5% cashback on the first £100 contactless spend a month will also have finished (on 31/12/2016).

Great info here, cheers. Do you know if it's possible to transfer an overdraft onto one of these cards?

Amerviv

You can only decrease the limit if it was too much, however, and with most of them, you can try after 6 month to increase the limit but this is only ideal with the purchases credit cards and not the BT ones. My advice is to enter the maximum amount(s) you wish to transfer from all existing credit cards at the time of the online application, you're more likely to be accepted for the full amount you wish to transfer if you get through the credit check. My wife's first credit card was with Barclaycard 3 years ago, they gave her only £900 credit limit on purchases card, 2 weeks ago I applied for her the 25 month 0% for 1.5% BT fee, (was her 2nd Barclaycard credit card), but I added about 6k to transfer from 2 cards, she was accepted and with more than 12k credit limit which was a shoking figuer, very unexpected from £900 to over 12k!! so try your luck and please let us know.

Amerviv

It clearly said: "Representative Example: If you borrow £1200......."

Mashman1974

It's up to you - in person/on phone would give you a idea of credit limit quicker (i would imagine)

popoyaya

So it's better to apply in person/over the phone and not online to get the £25 cashback?
