Mike Oldfield is well know for tinkering with the original Tubular Bells album, as the reviews on Amazon confirm. So if you are expecting the same original release you will be disappointed
Still not bad for £3.
Also Ommadawn and Return to Ommadawn included in the 2 for £10 offer
Mike Oldfield is great.
reminds me of the exorcist for some reason
Watched the documentary on him the other night, didnt realise how mixed up he was at such a young age. Shame as it effected his career for most of his life, low confidence. Really talented bloke, deserves more than the credit he gets.

Some of this tracks were used in that movie
What’s “CD”.... does it have a cable 🤫
DVD version had some great surround sound tracks, music should have head more in that direction IMO, but guess it’s a lot of mixing effort for a minority audience.
The album that made Branson a millionaire
Decent price but I'm waiting for it on floppy disc
This is the best version I think:
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells II (Sentinel)
Superb album. Cd is always better than download. It all depends on the quality of the CD player and disc. A top quality player in a proper hifi will always sound better or a good as a hi res recording. Another way is to create a perfect rip via dbpoweramp or eac and them play through a Dac and amp to speakers.
Tubular bells is a landmark album that set up Branson for life.
Then again without him the album may never have been released.
If this is the same as the CD I bought (appears to be) then be very cautious. I was very disappointed. I thought it was the original production re-mastered. It wasn't, not even close. Frankly, it came across as a rather self-indulgent variant that did not deliver the 'magic' of the original, far from it in fact. What I found particularly annoying is that there is very little indication of this on the CD packaging. Most people will probably not realise, that they are buying something quite different from what they expect.

How can CD sound better than a hi res recording?
In terms of sound quality, there's no point ripping a CD using EAC if you can just buy a studio quality FLAC file.
I agree that a lossless rip from a CD will sound better than most downloads (which are low res, compressed formats).
The advantage of CD over hi res downloads is that the CD is cheap and hi res downloads are ridiculously overpriced. (Also my elderly DAC - which was designed to be used with a CD player - can't cope with many hi res downloads).
The Venetian effect
Without him, Branson would not exist!!
Odd that the CD doesn't include the incredibly useful AutoRip, but the vinyl version does. Shame.

Prime customers might like to know that various versions of Tubular Bells (including the original) are available to listen to free.

Sorry buddy, it's back up to £5.99. I'll expire the deal (if I can).

It's still in the 2 for £10, if you're happy to pay a couple of quid more than the original deal.

I went to see Tubular Bells for Two last year. Makes you appreciate the effort that went into even getting the demo tape for this together.

Unexpired in case some wandering soul comes across this thread and needs a copy for less than £3.01!
Having received and played the album I would recommend seeking out the original Virgin label release or the 2000 HDCD remaster, also on the Virgin label, over this.
