Some people have to take their kids out during term time due to the ridiculous prices, also some kids don't start school until the age of 4 so school holidays wouldn't matter

Sorry Mark, no one 'has to take kid's out of school term time'. Its the parents choice to do it & it affects their children's education in the long term.
I wish the fines handed out for children not attending was quadrupled across the whole country then the tax I pay wouldn't be wasted.
As its been pointed out, hopefully the kids will be back in school so people can have a quiet holiday.

Kids education at the age of 5/6 is NOT affected.

Quadrupled fines?! Pathetic!! Fines don't achieve anything other than line the pockets of the ones in ivory do-gooder towers

Strong parenting... I'm with taffyevans, on this. No one is forcing you to go overseas for a holiday if you can't afford to go during school holidays.

A bit OTT to be honest. It could actually improve their education in the long term. Each case is different. Common sense and discretion better than hard and fast stuffy rules.

but the comments aren't about going on on holiday, or going overseas, or the ability to afford it. They are about taking out of school during term time (not necessarily to play in a pool all day).

Considering the subject of the deal, I disagree. Clearly there are good reasons for pulling your kids out of school, that's why there is an approval process. The fine is handed out when kids miss school to go to Turkey, for example. It's the parents that want a nice holiday, not because it's best for their kids....

Heat added BTW. It's a good deal.

Taking kids out of school for a week or so will have didly squat impact on their "long term education". Especially if the holiday is utilised in a beneficial way. Education is not a singular concept that only exists within the four walls of a school building.

You are right the children don't want to go to turkey but they do want to spend quality time with their families, they do benefit from learning about foreign languages and food, geography, nature and yes likely swimming which is a very important life skill etc etc etc... The fines should be there to fine parents who consistently and repeatedly take their child out of school every term not for a few days off. It wouldn't be much of a hardship to have pre-printed books for children to fill out on their holidays varying in content depending on age/ability to make them think/learn from their experiences.

Hot deal OP - unfortunately on this occasion I am conforming and taking my children on holiday in the Easter Holiday... although we will be visiting Anne Franks House and a concentration camp etc.. silly me obviously missed the parent memo that said everything my child ever needs to know/experience is in the classroom.

Can't say i've been but i know what you mean

children will learn just as much on a family holiday - good quality time!
im all for taking kids out of school for just 1 week a year if it means they wont get a holiday as they cant afford one.
soeone said a fine was only like £60 but you save over £1000 so i would be happy to pay £60

Taffy, Totally disagree with your ridiculous comments.

I can only assume you dont have kids. I for one agree that repetitive non-reasoning absences should be fined. However, before the fines came in, you were allowed to take your child(ren) out of school for 2 weeks each term time. I as a parent, think this is quite reasonable. On their return, they would be given the material of what happened during that time. Family times and enjoyment is just as educational as at being at school. Also sun recharges their batteries (the term a bit of R+R).

Dont use this as a vessel of the tax you pay, because their is probably something you do that im paying for.

Im sure their was a time, believe it or not when you were a child.....

Good deal!
My hubby and I both got fined £60 each last year for taking our daughter out of school for 5 days, I was more than happy to pay the fine - we saved over £800 on our holiday! I will be doing it again this year!

People will joke about anything these days, how tasteless.

I think taking kids out of the last week of term time is ok as they tend to be winding down by then but doing it for the first week of school is unfair on the child. Stopping them making friends and learning things ahead of them.

I have stayed at this hotel twice with my family and my sister and her family (they have been 3 times) The hotel is actually really nice. The rooms are clean modern and comfortable, the prices for drinks are reasonable, plus you buy one and get one free on soft drinks and draft beer. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There are things going on all day if you want to join in, plus they have entertainment on an evening. We enjoyed the Turkish evening. Right next door is the Excelsior hotel which is bigger with more things going on, you can use the facilities of both hotels. The hotel is only a short stroll to the beach and only yards away from restaurants.

I would go back in a heartbeat!

but when the teachers fancy a skiing holiday in term time, it's a 'educational trip ' for your children not a holiday.
just another money maker....

I suggest you do so; Turkey is a large country and nothing to do with Isis. Or are you one of those idiots who thinks all Muslims are the same?

Is the fine for taking your child out of school irrespective of the duration?

yes £60 per child per parent

You've actually made a moron of yourself here, you could drive Lands End to John O'Groats with a couple of Little Chef breaks quicker then getting from the Syrian Border to this area of Turkey. And thats assuming the Syrian tanks can go as fast as a normal car.

Sometimes google let's you down mate.... if you don't ask it the right questions.

At my daughters school if a child is off school for 5 days or more a doctors note is required, If you don't provide one both parents get a £60 fine!
We actually received a newsletter from the school a couple of months ago to say if the school suspected a child was on holiday and not off school because of illness a teacher may call round to the house to check!! oO
