This seems like the cheapest smart thermostat radiator value, especially compared to the bigger companies. It looks like you need a box to connect them which is another £8. The reviews are also pretty good but I can’t speak for the reliability as they are pretty cheap. Shipping from China

Excellent price for 4 if they're any good!

If you're new to using devices like this I'd recommend having a look into Home Assistant to control them all.
    Toriniasty's avatar
    Came here to say that.

I have 10x of those hooked up to HA and zigbee2mqtt, working great. Can recommend. Way better than all my Hive TRVs that died after 3 years, had problems syncing and were unresponsive.

I bought a load of Tuya TS0601 last year to work with Home Assistant. I was initially very pleased with them but they proved very unreliable. They report low battery after a couple of weeks and fail to report the correct status of the valve regularly. I have a number of them that give an E1 error even when not attached to a radiator.
Tread carefully....I have 24 dud TRVs...
    edster353's avatar
Although I love home assistant I opted for using the Tado ones as I had heard similar reports to yours on battery issues. Such a shame they're not reliable 😔

Bit of advice if possible! I have a Nest thermosat linked to a Vaillant ecoTEC plus boiler. Would you have one of these on each radiator, set the Nest temperature boiler
higher than the TRVs and use the ZigBee app to control? Thank you!
    A57ton's avatar
Doesn’t really work like that, which is the biggest problem. You kind of need to manually control your boiler. In the UK, the are only good at blocking heat in rooms, because they cannot call the boiler.

For example, your living room (if that’s where your Nest is) could be 22 degrees and the Nest is set at 21. Your bedroom could be 18 and it won’t be getting any warmer because your boiler is off.

Now, you could set your Nest to 23 in the living room, which will bring the boiler on and allow the bedroom to warm up, but then before you know it, your living room is 23, you’re too hot and your bedroom only got up to 19.

All a bit of a joke really. These are really designed for places with district heating systems, where your house/apartment has a permanent hot water feed for radiators.

Put your hand in you pocket and get something better. I have Netatmo, thermostat and 14 valves. Had the setup for about 4 years and it’s flawless.

Don't torture yourself by buying this. Unfortunately, if you want a "smart" trv that just works, you really do need to pay the extra for some of the premium solutions out there eg Tado, Drayton, Netatmo etc.

As mentioned by others, these things just aren't reliable and it'll be money wasted when you could've just paid more on top to to have things done properly the first time.

I have moes brt-100 and they were around £20 each. They work perfectly fine and I don't think you need to spend more for the ones you mentioned

This is a very good price. After spending considerably more to kit out 15 radiators with drayton I'm not sure that having them in sync with my boiler is worth the extra. What I can say is that having individual capability to heat the rooms that i want to be heated is a fantastic thing and one that I recommend.
    Alllfff's avatar
I loved my draytons when I had them. Now have a heat pump so I sold them. I shouldn't have. I run a home assistant and even though I would have lost the ability to trigger the heat source, the TRVs are compatible with HA. I have two tuyas now and reliability is questionable as another comment mentioned.

Love seeing some Zigbee deals here. The question is if this is the best trv available on Aliexpress - I can see that there are at least 3 different designs sold as "Tuya" on Ali, but I'm not sure what are differences
    jozisko's avatar
They are not sold as tuya, but rather tuya compatible. Tuya is the app they are compatible with. Similar to smart life app

Shame to hear some of your comments on these. Need 14. I'm still manually turning TRVs on and off but the thought of paying £40+ per TRV on the Hive ones (have a hive hub) is a bit off putting, esp as some folk also have issues with those. Amazing there are still issue with reliability with many of these smart TRVs, which is really off putting.

Also, eing zigbee, would these then work with Hue app (have a lot of hue bulbs and have hue hub also). TIA.
    jozisko's avatar
Have a look at moes brt-100, I have 16 of them and they work perfectly fine. Have two zigbee gates to cover the whole three floors house.
They are controlled via smart things app, but I have them integrated to Google home app as well. They are compatible with Alexa as well, if needed
  8. CyptoHippy's avatar
Can these be connected to an external room thermostat? I normally use a wall mounted thermostat in each room which provides greater accuracy.
    Jay91's avatar
Yup you can. But that would kind of defeat the point of them. Each can be calibrated, so I bought a very simple manual room thermometer and calibrated each trv accordingly
  9. aleem's avatar
Do these provide the same functionality as the branded systems (Hive, Neaetmo, Tado etc)?

I'm assuming each TRV will be able to fire up the boiler when the temperature drops below it's set temp, to heat just that location/room? (edited)
    Bendown's avatar
Not sure they would be able to fire the boiler, they would have to be linked to the boiler to do that.

Very cheap and I've got no experience with these in particular, but I do have experience with the more expensive Aqara TRV. I did run into one problem with that which I think all TRVs are going to be prone to, and that is that the temperature is going to read much higher than the room due to the device being right next to the radiator. The problem with that is the TRV will think it's at the target temp for the room way before the actual target temp has been reached so will turn off before the rooms even heated up. Of course you can get around this by setting the target temp to a higher value so it takes longer for the TRV, but it is a bit of a janky solution and I didn't like having sync incorrect readings.

What I was able to do with my Aqara one was buy their separate temperature sensor which I have placed on the opposite side of the room to the radiator, so the TRV uses the temperature value of the dedicated sensor rather than its own internal sensor. It's been working great since then, but it was annoying that I had to buy an additional sensor for £15-20 to get it to work right.
    BraddersJ's avatar
Someone above said that these can be calibrated to account for that
  11. Salad_Fingers's avatar
Beware if you buy these, China will know how hot your house is.
    HellRazer's avatar
I think how "cold" more likely, as judging by some comments on this place, a lot of folks aren't heating their houses properly.
  12. GeeBeeMTB's avatar
I've got hive ones and they are great. But seriously expensive compared to these. Ended up with 15 of them that I managed to buy on various deals over a two year period. I WFH permanently since 2019 and the ability to heat any combination of rooms to any temperature anytime of the week has been brilliant especially as the cost of heating has rocketed. About time someone brought out a more affordable option
    Ben_Mills's avatar
I've the same, but with Drayton.
I do wonder how much gas I'm actually saving though, compared with the price of the TRVs
  13. Jay91's avatar
These are incredible, I have the wifi ones (no need for zigbee gateway), I have only 5 in the house, and since installing we are now saving £10 per week. I also have a tuya thermostat which works hand in hand (not needed.)
I would highly recommend buying rechargeable batteries of a reasonably high capacity. I stupidly used poundland kodak batteries and they barely lasted a month. However I recently bought 2800mah rechargeable, and those are working perfectly now, barely 10-15% battery usage per month.
Feel free to throw questions my way, happy to help/advise on usage and setup. (edited)
    Mubs's avatar
    Thanks i also own this.
It specifically asks for 1.5v battery. Will a 1.2v rechargeable battery work?
  14. WelshTony1's avatar
I'm sure the answer is no before I ask but I will ask anyway.

Anyone know if these will work with Tado?

Can you manually turn these on/off if the WiFi is down?
    A57ton's avatar
You mean when the internet is down, not WiFi right?
  18. piranha86's avatar
50125462-oZVxv.jpgI bought these a few months ago but wasn't able to attach them to a few of my radiators because this what the connectors look like? Do I need to get a plumber to replace my connectors? (edited)
  19. Scotcruz's avatar
I contemplated getting these but decided against it for 2 reasons:

1- you can individually control the radiators which is gr8 but the fact boiler would still be on if you turn the heating on in 1 room or 3 rooms.. is there any real saving?

2- Tuya and Smart Home app requires access to your Internet.. unless you have a private network setup on a separate router , you wifi network would be vulnerable
