'After a fairly lengthy beta test period, UK TV streaming service TVCatchup has graduated its Android app from beta, and launched it on the Google Play Store. The app, like the TVCatchup website, allows license fee-paying Brits to watch live online streams of many of the country's free-to-air TV channels -- currently over 50, the app claims. We've been using the app throughout its beta test phase, and we've found it to be just as reliable as the website.

Note that you'll need to be in the UK to download this app, and that it won't work if you're not on a UK ISP or mobile network. Also, if you want to stay on the right side of the law, you'll need to hold a TV license to view live broadcasts.

With that out of the way, Brits can head to the Google Play link above to download TVCatchup for Android. It's free and ad-supported, and you'll need a phone or tablet running at least Android 2.2.'

I love the fact that you can simply dump the advert at the start of a program. Would like to see that implemented into the browser application.

Hot from me.

Wow! And you'll find most of us use and have had access to the mobile site for some time. Some of us can even use the main web page on our phone's browser (that's the mobile site you've linked to), due to the processor in the Blade, you cannot. This is an App not a web link.

can someone explain to me the benefit(s) of accessing this through the app as opposed to the web link in my mobiles browser? thank you.

I downloaded this couple days back when it became available. I was waiting for the app, I loved how it was on the ipad. Its just more easier & when I was on the browser using it I noticed it was buffering more often and would stop aswell. so benefit for me there (using on my hptouchpad-android)

Great, thanks for the post.

Got my Elf 2, Android version 4.0.3. Sweet.

Oh, it's not compatible apparently. I knew I should have bought a Nexus 7

it does not run that well on my nexus 7 it has trouble continually streaming. even with a rock solid wifi and internet connection.

Perhaps we should list the tablets that it works (well) on, seems like very few at the moment....

Works on Archos 70 IT....

No need to rub it in is there. Can we just list the tablets that it doesn't work on from this point onwards please, just to make me feel better about this stupid Elf 2 tablet that I've literally just had delivered (there seem to be a few apps that aren't compatible, including Google's own browser).

Has been working fine on S2 for couple on months without issues. (the app that is.) On Nova 7 Aurora 2 (i9220) it tells me to download the latest version of the app each time I open it. It is the latest downloaded from their site so not sure what it is .. will hope its fixed when there is a new update. Might try if via the Play store and see if it works better.

Hehe .. can add to that list the Aurora 2 .. installed from Play store this time and get further, can see all the channels etc, but won't start any stream and pops up with some message like "playback from the server has stopped unexpectedly" Retry, cancel... still same.

Do you need to be on 3G for this to work?

Android fragmentation is becoming ridiculous. Got the Nexus 7, and good number of Apps I wanted are not available on it via Play.
