This is awesome thanks, can watch tv on my iphone. H+R added

Nice one...Thanks

Thanks for the reminder! I did see this posted before but totally forgot about it.

Very handy for me, as I don't have an aerial cable going to the room in which this PC resides. I did have Sky in here (as part of the multiroom) but was cancelled a while back as I never watched it enough to justify the cost. I was thinking about getting a Freesat box, but decided against it after reading reviews on all the cheap players.

Just signed up moments ago, and picture quality is pretty decent with no buffering (apart from the initial start).

Anyone know of a decent website for TV guides? I'm using tvguide.co.uk/ at the moment but it's not very clean looking. TIA

the site also has a guide.

Yeah I noticed that after I posted lol. Thanks though

the picture on the ipod touch is amazing, cheers

good site but strange name. TVCatchup makes me think it can play old TV episodes that you missed.

Thanks

Originally, thats what it was but they discovered that infringed copyright. Live streaming (UK only) of freeview channels is 100% legal though.

Thank you, heat and rep applied x

Hehe, course the pic is good on the iPod, the screen is tiny!

Yeah, it's an odd one this site, the fact you can only watch what's on at the moment....but handy in some situations!

Just tried it, fantastic!

I use FireFox with 'Adblock Plus' extension, which automatically screens out the advert when you first click on a channel - then leaves the page hanging with a blank screen - reload page to go to the channel.

Fantastic!! Means i can watch tv at lunch in work

Just a warning - with "live" TV I'm pretty sure you need a tv license. If it is catchup that's different.

Thank you. What should be used as "open with" please? I'm not very technical!

Magic,

now watching Sky Sports News at Work! :-)

Even if it is live, provided it is being watched on a device "powered solely by its own internal batteries"

Then you do not need a licence.

wrong.

You don’t need a TV Licence for your term-time address if

You only watch downloaded or streamed TV AFTER it has been broadcast This includes using websites like YouTube and Bebo, as well as ‘on demand’ internet services like iPlayer offering TV downloads or streaming.

You obviously did not read the whole page you provided the link for.... and I cannot be bothered to explain it for you. re-read the page from the link you provided and you will realise you are wrong.

yawn.

how do you get over 50 channels? mines only listing 29? Am I missing an update or something?

I suggest you read it again as you dont need one if your out-of-term address has one (e.g. parents).

Had this on my iPhone for a while now

can you watch the channels on a 360??

ignore my last questions. 50 is online, my iphone has 29 channels.

Failing to mention this applies to STUDENTS ONLY who are still living at home out of term time is a bit of a fundamental flaw in your reply.

I don’t need to. The original post did not mention anything about students..... therefore his post was hugely misleading by just quoting the line saying you don’t need a licence.... when the vast majority of people do.

i memba this put up last time! its great had it on my iphone n used it at uni when i was bored

It works on the PS3 so i would have thought so...

In this context students are just an example, I should have been a bit more clear to say that you need a licence at home but I can for example watch a handheld TV whereever I like if I have a licence at home, regardless of whether the premesis I happen to be in at the time have a licence.

edit: here is a non- student specific link, read at the bottom

So to clear this all up.... if you watch live TV you do need a licence.... unless you are a student in which case mummy and daddy need one.

jeeezzzz.

Yes but the point i'm trying to make is that if you have a licence at home you CAN watch live TV on your phone at work (or other device powered by it's own internal batteries) even if your work does not have a TV licence. But you CANNOT watch a portable TV connected to the mains electricity at work if your work does not have a licence regardless of your home licence.

ok... well looking back at page 2 that doesn't seem to be the point you were originally trying to make.... but I will leave it there.

I was thinking in the context of other people's comments mentioning watching at work. But yes I agree I was not clear and my comment could have mislead some people.
