TVonics went bust and the Administrator has reached an agreement with TVonics previous Service company to sell and maintain for the 12 month warranty period.

I bought one previously at £89.95 and can testify these are 100% new and are superb HD Freeview Recorders with Twin HD Tuners. Also iPlayer access via the RED button service but no ability to record iPlayer content.

Unusually these were UK manufactured at the old Sony factory in Wales.

£79.99 is manufacturer refurbished
Fantastic deal; these were RRP £280 when they came out. Excellent expert reviews
I paid £100 for one a few months ago. I would say that the SD broadcasts aren't upscaled quite as well as my old Topfield 5810, but the HD broadcasts it provides are really very good, plus, where broadcast (though it's rare at the moment) you can get 5.1 surround on the HD channels too! For 85 quid, I think it's a bit of a steal! Hot!

gone up to £119.99 now!!!
On the face of it, it looks quite stylish but I have had it for 3 days, it has frozen 4 times and had to turn it off each time to get it back.
The volume and mute does not work, the seller tells me I have to tune in the remote with my TV but I have tried every option in the User Guide witrhout success. The manufacturer has gone bust so there will be no sofware upgrades when things go tits up.
Wonderful price, very fast delivery sadly it would be even better if it worked as it should.
now that the manufacturer has gone bust does anyone have any idea of a suitable dongle that would work with this,,
Richer Sounds are offering this at £115. Now Richer have good no quibble support (I know, I've used it) which might help out in the case of a discontinued manufacturer.

And at £115 it would still be the best value HD PVR anywhere at this moment.

The menus are just about the simplest you can get, good for the non-techie, so good for the elderly etc.
Plus this is a UK-centric design so has a good understanding of Freeview.
Who knows, the product may even be picked up by another company again like Intempo was.

But just where do you get the latest firmware? The last firmware even gives you BBC iPlayer if used with the TVonics WiFi dongle. Oh, and where do you buy that?
Have found a site that will enable lastest software and also which dongle to purchase.

Someone seems to be expressing some frustration here. Did you miss the deal? The eBay price from an Buy It Now seller with stock inc P&P has now firmed up to £97.
I suspect because the acquisition of Tvonics means the firmware now gets support.
Any eBay based deal is prone to change day by day.
Anyway I received my Tvonics HD box a week ago from the new owners of the brand, Pulse-Eight, preferred to spend £18 more as tech support should be better.
Very happy, twin tuner + iPlayer working well on WiFi.
But the tip off was right here from HUKD for sure.
BTW - I ordered the DTR-Z500HD not the HD500. Their specs and prices on Pulse-Eight are identical.
Avoided the HD500 as although the casing looks slick, seems to me it will be difficult to open for fixing/disk upgrade and cooling cannot be as reliable as the bigger casing and big fan vent of the DTR0Z500HD.

The DTR-Z500HD is on Ebay today £94.99 inc postage but is a refurb:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TVonics-DTR-Z500HD-Freeview-HD-Digital-PVR-HDMI-500GB-TV-Recorder-Set-Top-Box-/310432515454?pt=UK_AudioElectronicsVideo_Video_TelevisionSetTopBoxes&hash=item484738457e

A bargain but the same thing inc postage is available new at just £20 more from the manufacturer with a 1 year warranty.

Not really worth posting a new HUKD deal on these slight variances of model or pricing.
But at £90 is refurb or £115 new , these HD recorder boxes have got to be a big bargain.
Needs some heat or I no longer can take HUKD Heat rating as a useful indicator!
