"The Entire Mystery"... until the new series starts on 21 May 2017

Description

All 30 episodes of David Lynch's landmark murder mystery series. Twin Peaks (population 51,201), a sleepy everytown USA where everyone's lives intersect with everyone else's, lies just five miles from the Canadian border. The town wakes up one morning to find one of its brightest young inhabitants, beautiful Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) murdered and wrapped in plastic down by the river. Local Sheriff Harry S. Truman (Michael Ontkean) and tearful Deputy Andy (Harry Goaz) are out of their depth with such a murder case and an FBI agent is assigned to investigate. Youthful, charismatic and somewhat otherworldy in his approach to policing, Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) arrives to try and solve the case. Cooper's appearance causes ripples in the community and in turn he discovers that Twin Peaks is a small town full of secrets.

PS. Some discussion within the first few comments of this thread as to whether the packaging has now changed, & the above image is now out-of-date/not accurate. The Blu-ray Disk-content appears to be identical, as far as we can tell at this time.

The wait is over — Twin Peaks, the follow-up to David Lynch’s cult ABC series, will debut on Showtime on May 21 at 9 PM with a two-hour premiere, Showtime president David Nevins announced at the top of the network’s TCA session today. Immediately after the premiere, episodes 3 and 4 will also be made available on Showtime’s digital platform. “It’s really happening,” Nevins exclaimed.

In other Twin Peaks news, the new season will consist of 18 episodes, Nevins confirmed. Lynch filmed the entire season as a movie, with a decision made later how to cut the material into episodes, so the exact episode count had been in flux. “It will be 18 unforgettable hours,” Nevins said.

Except for the Episode 3 and 4’s early release, the show will essentially air weekly, because Lynch believes in weekly TV, Nevins said, adding that the series will have a global launch around the world. The network expects it to help launch new drama series I’m Dying Up Here, which premieres June 4.

Nevins admitted he has seen the entire season at private screenings Lynch had done for him and Showtime president of programming Gary Levine, who were treated to donuts before each session. Nevins called the new installment “the pure-heroin version of David Lynch.” Like the original, the follow-up “rewards close watching,” Nevins added.

He called the 1990s ABC series “the original social media discussion show before the tools for social media engagement existed.”

The new version of Twin Peaks sees original star Kyle MacLachlan return as FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper. Or as Nevins put it, it’s “about Agent Dale Cooper’s odyssey to Twin Peaks.” He will be joined by several other cast members from the original series, including Lynch himself in a role as FBI Agent Gordon Cole, as well as several new cast members.

Asked whether there is a possibility for a second new season on Showtime, Nevins did not rule out a continuation completely, but noted that the upcoming 18-episode installment “is designed to be close-ended, one-time event.”

I have this box set, the quality of the actual product is amazing. Really robust and interesting design with lots of detail and extra treats (including a little easter egg at the bottom of the box!).

The show itself is incredible too. I imagine it's a bit esoteric, but once you get into it it's gripping. Love the setting and the music, and the often poor acting somehow just makes it all the more endearing! Season 1 is amazing, season 2 sort of drags on and spins out of control with a very 'marmite' ending, but overall it's an amazing show.

Can't wait for the reboot coming later this year!

I did note, that there is listing for an "All Regions" edition at Amazon (US) that has a running time of 1,637 minutes (compared to the 1,410 minutes that HMV have stated).

I ordered the HMV-listed item yesterday evening so cannot confirm if it also contains "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me" [ imdb.com/tit…665 ], but it definitely has the "The Missing Pieces" [ imdb.com/tit…704 ].

Does your set include everything available to date?

"Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery Wins Saturn Award For Best Blu-Ray Television Release"
(26 June 2015)
---
Last night at the 2015 Saturn Awards in Burbank, CA, Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery won the award for Best Blu-Ray Television Release. The Saturn Awards are held annually since 1972 by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films to honor film and television makers who work in these three genre fields.

The 10-disc Twin Peaks Blu-ray collection released on July 29 2014, beat fellow nominees Batman: The Complete Television Series, Hannibal: Season 2, Merlin: The Complete Series, Spartacus: The Complete Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation: Season 7 and Wizards and Warriors: The Complete Series. Other winners at the 41st Annual Saturn Awards include Lost creator Carlton Cuse, Noah Wyle, Hannibal, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Interstellar.

Congratulations to CBS Home Entertainment, producer Charles de Lauzirika and his team! Any update on the audio sync issues though?

Back in 2008, The Definitive Gold Box edition already won the award for Best Retro Television Series on DVD. On their way to a hat-trick, one question remains: after the ‘Definitive’ collection and ‘The Entire Mystery’, how are they going to name the future 4K box set that adds the new episodes?

I can't really comment on what is/isn't available now, got mine last year. Would be a shame if you can't get the version I have any more, it really is gorgeous.

Unfortunately I can't see the runtime anywhere on my box. Would've thought all that kind of info had to be printed somewhere on every video product!

It's called an opinion. People have them, get used to it!
I reckon Fire Walk With Me was fantastic.
Not sure if this is one of those shows that you needed to watch at the time to really enjoy / appreciate it.

I didn't know much about it, only that it had cult status and is held in really high regard. Sky had it available on boxsets so I gave it a go. I watched the whole first season and first couple episodes of the second before giving up, just not seeing the appeal. I was forcing myself to watch it to see when it would turn into this show the deserved such high praise. It all just got a bit too random letting characters / actors ham it up. Maybe that quirkiness was part of the appeal, but seeing it for the first time in 2017 - maybe I'm a couple decades too late to get it.

Yeah, the revised packaging is what you will get via the website. The original fancy packaging had another listing on the site, which has been deleted.
If you want the original packaging, you'd basically just have to cross your fingers that your local HMV has some old stock.
