Ho hum back to twitch for some digital prostitution lol

85% discount is pretty incredible when you're essentially buying money to give to other people
    Erm... What are Bits?

    Erm... What are Bits?

They are used to "celebrate and show support". You can send attach your cheer with an emote and message.
So pay to cheer for something lol

Hmm, so would the recipient still get the larger value?

I might start streaming and pay people to 'cheer' me with these discounted bits and make millions.
    anyone else get checkout error?

EDIT: paypal wasnt working for me for some reason. amazon checkout worked.
    Edited by: "didsburydan" 16th Apr
I got checkout error on PayPal but fine when I paid through my amazon account
    heat added for O
I keeped my window open and got 6 lots 3000 thanks op
Usually I'll donate through PayPal as streamer gets money straight away and usually more than bits return but at this discounted price makes bits a good buy

you pay for the 500 bits and the person gets as many as donated, you can split between people, I would estimate you would get maybe $10 tops trying to scam the system before you get banned
says 99$ for me, good deal but i don't really want any

It’s very unlikely to stop until Amazon stop giving away free subs with Prime.
Bits are the worst way to spend money on Twitch if you are in UK and Europe. For instance the normal price for $10.50 worth of bits in the uk is £19.99 which is $28.64 at current rates so you pay an extra $18 for the privilege of donating $10 to a streamer via bits. In the US they get the same $10 worth of bits for $16.80.

As someone has said if you must donate to streamers do it via PayPal or even better buy a months sub for $5.

Whats wrong with it? Why is watching a talk show on TV where there's no way to interact with the hosts, much less of a community, have ad breaks 30% of the time, many many times fewer choices of people to watch. Watching a stream is pretty much like watching a talk show(or listening to a radio show) because you watch it for the hosts/personalities. There's nothing wrong with streamers, most of the time it's the same 1,000 or so people watching each person each time, many inside jokes can be built up, the streamer starts recognising some of their viewers by name. Oh and of course there's no constant ads.

Also the bits/cheer system is almost no different than calling/texting into a TV show or radio show. You can call or text into a radio station at a premium rate and then have a small chance of your message getting read out on air and you're pretty much anonymous. Using bits to put your message on a stream is the same other than your message will definitely show on stream(some have minimum limits sure), the streamer will read it and say thanks, and the money.

Streamers don't get even close to the $5 when you sub - twitch take around 30%. PayPal is always best but then you don't get those sweet emotes.

I thought it was 50% for twitch, 50% for the streamer. Although I guess twitch keeps the extra dollar from the UK that we pay ontop of the $5, for vat.

I think I messed up trying to pay for these bits with amazon, as I had my prime through my dad linking his account (I get my prime piggybacked off his) and I think I delinked my dads amazon/my twitch and connected it to my own amazon.
You can only get Twitch Prime if you are the primary amazon prime account holder

I agree, but bits can be fun. Especially now you can earn them for free in the UK via the android or ios app, by watching adds (2 bits per 30 second add). I only ever buy bits on promos like these.

I don't like any of the forms of entertainment or exploitation you mentioned above either.

I think it's to do with the way streamers approach the whole thing. Many seem to be so desperate. Almost like dancing bears doing absolutely anything for likes/views/revenue. It sort of reminds me of the movie 'Nerve'. Perhaps that sort of thing will show up in the not too distant future.
I guess for something that's supposed to be real people doing real things in the real world it all seems so fake to me. But perhaps that's just the way modern day entertainment is. Doesn't mean I have to like it and hope it stays but I guess a lot of people like that sort of thing so meh, enjoy.

I used to be like that........

However a community develops around good streamers, people who are chatty and interact with their audience. Yes there are very popular streamers who do it professionally and for the money, but there are plenty who don't. I follow several and only donated a handful of times, that said seeing others plays also helps me develop my own playing style, and improves my game. I don't watch it alot, but those I do I find entertaining.......each to their own.

Streamer gets $2.30 per sub, so bits/subs are fairly similar. PayPal is the best technically but all appreciated anyway

Watching someone play a game with a screen recorder is the same as Game Of Thrones, Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, etc which cost Millions per Episode, Yeah sure it's the same thing /s

For every 100 bits you donate, the streamer gets $0.10 ... I get $3.50 for every twitch sub. .

More subs you get, the more, bigger cut of the pie u get !!!

First of all the TV license is a legal requirement in this country if you own a TV. There are very few ways to legitimately circumvent it.

Secondly, when these idiots start producing content akin to the BBC's documentary output then it would be something worth paying for. IMHO anybody who throws at a screaming moron playing Battlegrounds or a digital prostitute playing GTA Online with her chest hanging out needs therapy.
