This blanket is sold by various online shops, says it meets B-S10030206, EN 1869:1997.

Isn't that enough?

AFAIK, just to confuse things, I believe the kite mark is now one of a few officially British standards marks, much like has happened with e.g. electricians (where you used to just look for NICEIC to know your Electrician was legit, now there's others like NAPIT etc.)
(Having said that, I couldn't imagine getting a fire blanket from a random eBayer, whatever was printed on it. Seems to be an example of false economy to me.)

Absolutely agreed. Just bought a kitemarked one from Amazon after reading these posts. Slightly bigger at 1.2m Square, with a rigid case, and only one blanket, at £9.98. Worth every penny I think.
Yes, when it comes to safety or electrical, I’d rather buy from the official amazon site or from a mainstream retailer like B&Q. The trouble with eBay (and amazon marketplace) is that sellers bulk import from Chinese sellers who print anything on the package to generate a sale, even if it doesn’t conform to the standards.
If it’s Amazon or a mainstream retailer selling it then they do ensure that it’s a genuinely conforming product (otherwise they’d get huge fines).
I’m the same with electrical chargers - far better to buy something from a known retailer than to risk the charger catching fire while you’re asleep or out.

Amazon do not check legitimacy unless it's been called upon by customers or sellers.

So, regarding products Amazon actually sell and not third party sellers, what you're saying is that the team of buyers at Amazon do not check that the products they source, then stock and sell conform to regulations and laws for the countries in which they sell them? And if they don't personally source them direct from the manufacturer then they don't check that their procurement agents or distributors do their own checks?

Er... No, unfortunately.
Amazon are 'that big' so they will deploy lawyers or blacklist sellers should suppliers step out of line. However, people are people, and would take advantage of this fact that amazon won't check until called upon (by the customers or other third party).

In short, it makes the landscape of within Amazon a little cut throat/harsh. Thus, you'll see more and more sellers on Amazon will do the quick buck and run.
