I've casually read a few DE shaving threads on forums but I'm too clumsy to go with anything other than a butterfly razor.

Might be worth a bash if you're new to DE shaving and afraid of cutting yourself - the butterfly (Twist-To-Open or "TTO") mechanism, obviously, makes it easier to remove blades. And you get TWO heads/handles, along with 12 DE Razors.
2875389.jpg
2875389.jpgNot many reviews of this, nor does it say which DE blades it comes with - but 2 Butterfly Safety Razors + 12 DE Blades from the UK is worth a try.

Feedback isn't that informative (click "See Feedback", beside the amount sold).

Also, I wonder if this is the same as the Jagen David B30 that was on HUKD a few months back (from Amazon, at £9.99) hotukdeals.com/com…061oliviatraders uses the exact same image (?).

Jagen David B30 HUKD thread here: hotukdeals.com/dea…984

If you only need ONE head/handle + 11 DE razors you can purchase from the same seller, oliviatraders, for £3.49 (thanks to mrbond1) ebay.co.uk/itm…765

Other options:

Classic Shaving Vintage YNR Butterfly Safety Razor With 10 Pack of Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellows (bf loves these blades) - razor says "Creative Edge London" on the head, not sure if they all look this way)
£5.25 Buy It Now, UK ebay seller shaving-razors ebay.co.uk/itm…184

Same "Creative Edge London" razor head/handle, but with 20 Pack Gillette 7 O'clock Yellow blades for £6.50 (medical-devices UK ebay seller) ebay.co.uk/itm…576
2875389.jpgIn Rose Gold, Baili Branded Butterfly Razor, With Case
£7.99 from Amazon UK seller "K&K UK Marketing Services Ltd" amazon.co.uk/Sha…BYP
(Badger And Blade speculate that Baili is just a rebrand like Weishi, Jagen David, Drs ProChoice, RazoRock Quick-Change etc)
2875389.jpgThink this is also the Rose Gold Butterfly Baili as it comes with Baili razors and a branded case..

£6.11 + 26p = £6.37 from China ebay seller xiaokishuntek ebay.co.uk/itm…308

(£6.46 from homeimprovement2016 - China ebay seller) ebay.co.uk/itm…775
2875389.jpgReviews of the Baili-branded Rose Gold Butterfly Razor, on Amazon US: amazon.com/BAI…ews
(Baili BD177 is the model number for the Rose Gold razor above, assuming they're all the same - lots of forum chatter about this one)

Another Baili Butterfly DE Razor, below, £4.99 from the UK, ebay seller (comes with 5 Baili blades and travel case) whitehouselight ebay.co.uk/itm…923
Think this one is BT131 (Silver)
2875389.jpgBaili (company site, link shows their DE razor selection) bailishaver.com/pro…or/ tends to get good reviews on shaving forums and on reddit: reddit.com/r/w…od/

If you're on a tighter budget and don't mind HK slow post, this Butterfly Razor/Handle And 5 Blades is £2.21 (same seller as previous listing) ebay.co.uk/itm…929

(OOS today, Saturday, but this is £2.28 from another HK seller, only a few left) ebay.co.uk/itm…240
2875389.jpgWeirdly, this Amazon listing uses the same images ^^^ at £23 + £3.99 delivery! amazon.co.uk/Exe…14J
and executive-shaving.co.uk/pro…796

Most of these look like clones of one another, so it's worth rolling the dice and giving these cheapies a try.

Have we gone full circle on razors now? going back to the 1960s

I refer you to this thread, started in 2012 hotukdeals.com/dis…386
Came across this review:

badgerandblade.com/for…00/

Possibly worthwhile for traveling etc but by the sound of things don't expect a luxury product...
Omg what a review !! I use a Wilkinson sword Hydro 5 sensitive blades last ages best razor ever had on offer now £4 Tesco
Original Poster
I use normal throwaway "girl" razors but have wanted to get into DE shaving (less wasteful), so was looking up butterfly heads/handles. Thought I'd share with other HUKDers - maybe, even, other women might want to try? Not much information on what's best for female DE shaving, though.

Tbh, I probably know more about DE Shaving (for men) than boyf does !
Edited by: "louiselouise" 12th Jan
Got this the last time was on here, to have a go. OKish for the price, but its too light, and feels and looks cheap...better put the money towards a good one in the first place (Merkur, etc) and don't have to bother ever again.

I love DE shaving btw, I don't think I'll ever go back to disposables.

Heat for the effort nevertheless...

Can't speak with confidence about whether these are indeed all clones or just look similar, but the lookylikey razor/handle I have in here for when boyf visits is "Ri-Mei" and was bought from dx dot com about 4-5 years ago. It got good reviews on the shaving forums and boyf doesn't complain about it (and he is a bit of a grump).

Think it was this dx.com/p/r…281

Though, the big difference is, his "Ri-Mei" isn't a butterfly head, like the ones above. He uses a non-butterfly Edwin Jagger DE89L at home.

I have tried a variety of blades and always come back to Feathers. The blade is as important as the DE razor handle if not more.

Obviously just marketing. Also have you looked at gem/ever ready razors? The blades are more expensive but last longer and arguably better performance.

The only "Butterfly DE Razor" that was recently on HUKD was the Jagen David B30 (£9.99 from Amazon!). Just realised the Jagen David has the exact same image as the one sold by oliviatraders/ebay hotukdeals.com/dea…984

If they ARE the same, and it's not a cheekily-stolen jpeg, then the reviews from that thread look promising!

You can't really compare Gillette Fusion blades with DE shaving - it's about saving money, I guess - as Fusion cartridges cost a bomb in comparison to DE blades, and less wasteful to the environment (no plastics).

Just added the above shaving sticks/tubes of creams suggestions with the "money saving" angle in mind..once you get onto fancy shaving creams (eg Taylor Of Old Bond St et al), you end up spending more than you would on the High Street!

The animal welfare-friendliness of certain shaving cosmetic products is for others to debate over, as I'm not well-informed on that aspect, either.

I wouldn't offer to "massage" the seller! Especially if you have a girly username on the 'bay (couldn't resist, sorry).

But yes, as you say, the no-name blades may likely be junk - so, don't let that put you off DE shaving, go with a few of the suggestions above, or buy a trial pack of DE blades. Here's one, for example ebay.co.uk/itm…417

I was gifted those supermax blades from my Dad, they're pretty good and quite forgiving but do a decent shave.
A bit more expensive but try this for a decent quality butterfly. I have a 3 piece Parker and love it

After getting into this a while back, I still have a potentially dumb question, that I just can’t find the answer to...the blade edges are numbered 1-4, can you flip them over? Thanks.

Incidentally, the wife likes the Tabac soap I use. Not the cheapest mind.

Yes. Flipping them over is supposed to prolong the life
Don’t forget a decent shaving brush - makes a big difference. Vulfix 404 is a good one and about £13. Don’t bother with cheap ones from high street stores- been there and tried that and just a waste of money.

Another vote for Astra SP

She gets longer from a blade than an Arko stick? With daily shaving my Arko stick lasts for ages, several months. Alas, any blade I try lasts no longer than a week..
Gonna take the plunge as I like the clean shaven look occasionally and I've never had a good time with cartridges

I ordered the one from Ali...as you said, same image, don't know if its the exact same in reality...with some rapira blades it was doing a decent job, just feels a little flimsy.
But just been to Germany for Xmas, and manage to find a Futur for €49, so I treat myself . But Im still using my cheap butterfly sometimes, especially if I haven't been shaved for more than a week, as its easier to wash it off clean during shaving.
Great thread, and credit to the OP for posting this deal. I've used a DE shaver for a few years and would never go back to the marketing gimmick products of Gillette.
Remember all blades are subjective, try several varieties - you'll be amazed at how different they are.

Shaving used to be pain, now it feels great!

I added as many reviews as I could - but of course, using them yourself and experimenting with blades is the decider. The "chrome" Jagen David/Baili/Weishi clones are a bit harder to find reviews for, as they all look the same in online photos (Google Images helped a little with Baili reviews) but I can't determine if they all truly ARE the same.

At the very least, it could be a stepping stone to other razors, some reviewers say they do actually go back to their cheapies and even prefer them!!

Edit: Went for the Rose Gold Butterfly Baili BD-177 £6.11 + 26p = £6.37 from China ebay seller xiaokishuntek ebay.co.uk/itm…308
(a newer listing, found elsewhere, at £6.46ebay.co.uk/itm…775
33043884-PSpJT.jpgChose this as there's a lot of discussion about this one on shaving forums, and positive feedback about Baili in general. (And, on a more superficial level, I like the colour - easier to differentiate from boyf's "chrome"-plated DE razor, as well).

Another Edit: Reading good things about a Merkur Futur clone theshaveden.com/for…06/ called the Ming Shui 2000s (also sold under the QShave brand), looks like this
33043884-LO5Tv.jpgFound a Filipino ebay seller of an adjustable, which may be that same Ming Shui, for £4.98, can't say for sure, though ebay.co.uk/itm…113
(if it is, these clones get rave reviews, can see a few chatting about the QShave version on the HUKD DE Shaving Thread).

You can get this Merkur knockoff in a Gunmetal-darker grey or Black, on Aliexpress (some even do a personalisation service - nowhere near as cheap as ebay! Other brands seem to be "Mingshi", "Yintal" and "River Lake") aliexpress.com/ite…tml

I have been into DE shaving for many years now. Main lesson - not every blade works for every person so a bit of trial & error is required through a sample pack. I have now settled on the Gillette Black (proper name Gillette 7 O Clock Super Platinum) which is made & sold in India. Typical price there is the equivalent of 75p for a pack of 7 blades (get it when I travel there for work or have someone pick it up); each blade usually lasts around 5 days of shaving for me. Another blade I highly recommend is Kai but that is a lot more expensive.
Good price!

Haven't tried Muhle but been using an Edwin Jagger DE89 as my main for a couple of years and it looks good as new.
I’m female and switched over to using a DE razor last year as was annoyed at paying stupid amounts of money for razors and all the silly ‘girly’ packaging and advertising, also they just looked more interesting. Best decision in a long time!
Im using a Merkur 23C razor, Taylor of Bond Street - Lavender shaving cream and Feather blades and it works a dream. You definitely have to pay a bit more attention to shaving though, as I learned when I cut my knee and ankle but once you got the hang of it it’s quite a nice therapeutic routine and so much cheaper! Plus less waste which is a bonus.

Much apprecaited thread, a lot of time and dedication went into it, kudos!
