Be weary of ordering these YI cameras for two reasons (I own three YI CCTV cameras).

1. The footage gets sent to some server in china then back to your phone, regardless of wether you sign up to their cloud subscription or just use your own SD card. There is no way to stop this happening unless you hack the firmware AFAIK. You cant even stop it connecting to the outside world and just recieve footage on home wifi.

2. The app is sketchy at best. It used to be great but now it sends notifications as often as the sun in shining. It really is piss poor to be completely honest.
Have 3 of these and just ordered two more, never had an ounce of trouble from them. If someone in China wants to see my fat ass in pants scratching myself as I walk past they better be paid well!!!
I have an outdoor YI camera and an indoor camera, the indoor camera is in my bay window covering the driveway and front door, one night it caught this scumbag trying my front door, never had an issue, well worth the money.

No problems with my 2 indoor and 1 outdoor cameras. App is great and easy to use. Very reliable and good value system.

I can't distinguish any difference between the 720p quality and the 1080p quality. The way I rationalise this is.... 1080p is an extrapolation.

Fair warning, these are VERY hit and miss.

Ordered one as a stocking filler before Christmas and it absolutely failed to work because Yi had decided to remove support for the camera from the official application (iOS and Android), could have been a bug in the app but even so that's a MAJOR bug. Rendering the camera useless and back it went.

Just be aware that there's a possibility your camera will be rendered obsolete not because it *IS* obsolete but because this company decide you should upgrade and kill your product with software.

If it was their outdoor 1080p camera I'd say it's a fair trade off. The outdoor cameras seem to work better for alerts but the indoor ones are complete garbage. One of the YI cameras is advertised as a baby monitor but it failed to detect my 2 year old falling out of bed. Completely unacceptable. I wouldn't trust it as a baby monitor whatsoever.
No problems with my 2 indoor and 1 outdoor cameras. App is great and easy to use. Very reliable and good value system.
Indoor cameras, what’s the point in these ?
It’s like people who have cats for pets but never let them out of the house.

i agree i had the 360 camera and sent it back when it started moving all by itself
Can you tap into these and use something like iSpy to view?

If you hack it you can obtain the RTSP stream. The recent hacked FW now supports an audio stream too. Whether you can add an RTSP stream to iSpy i'm not sure
If only they'd allow nest or Alexa integration
Totally recommen
I got 4. 1 failed. 1080p worth it. They are best. Night time car light recordss motion. Make sure to set range where u want find motion. Live feed is good. For money cant complain
Thank you.
I believe iSpy can use RTSP format.
I shall take a look and see what's involved in installing a hacked FW.

I think these are pretty good. I’ve got 2 720p and one 1080p. I actually prefer the 720p purely because the 1080p seems more ‘zoomed in’ to me and doesn’t seem to have a wide range but might just be my setup.
All of mine ins look out windows and work well enough with PIR lights outside at night. For the price can’t fault them.
A review mentions that you have to pay £80 a year subscription fee to view the saved footage???

With no port forwarding, who knows what kind of entry point they also place on your local network.
Yi dropped support for their Micro 4/3s camera as well. Firmware was riddled with bugs and they had no intention of fixing them. A couple of twin lens systems were returned by my household. i won't buy any of their products again.

Annoyingly, on my 1080p ones when I open up the camera it defaults to slightly zoomed on. Try zooming out a little!
Two out of my five have issues. Two of them seem to corrupt any memory card that goes into them and they aren’t recognised. I’ve tried resetting etc

We have ours pointing on our drive, good security deterrent. And ours works just fine, for the price it is awesome
Have used one of these for over a year as a baby monitor. Cracking piece of kit especially the night vision. Saved me spending £150 on a dedicated baby monitor

I have a 1080 dome camera and one of these 720 both have 64gb sd cards
I dont use the cloud option i either record to phone on playback or take the sd card out and play it on the pc
Both damn good pic never had a problem with either
Day and night picture is very good
Compared to the ring id rather save the money and have these

I own three of these, they work flawlessly. You do not have to subscribe to anything, if you want footage recorded you simply insert a compatible memory card. You can then review it wherever you are.

The optional subscription is available for continuous recording over a specific period (probably unnecessary for most) which is recorded to the cloud. Yes, it's probably a Chinese cloud so if you're paranoid about Chinese things it's not for you.
I have two of the 720p ones which I got for cheaps and they are ok for live streaming. I just pull them out of the cupboard and stick them somewhere in a couple of rooms when we are going away and then I have peace of mind, when I feel I need it, that all is well. They go back in the cupboard when we get home. The motion detection isn't worth having.
Thanks for all the info
Just wondering these devices that are constantly plugged in usb are they any risks of these getting hot and malfunctioning ie risk of fire

Thanks

And I'm sure the cameras belonging to American and British tech companies do the same. The recent discovery that Google home and alexa products had more detailed access of your vouce recordings than you thought.

This tech is all about trade offs. People want cameras and voice assistants in the home yet freak about privacy. Don't buy cameras and home assistants. Heck don't buy a phone.

Or is it just the Chinese people don't trust?
