This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

Not everyones cup of tea I know but before anyone moans saying these courses are normally £9.99...they are not. Other Udemy courses obviously yo-yo between £9.99 and £199.99 ....these are a very rarely on offer this low. I have bought a few of these previously at closer to £20 when on offer.....

Author Michael Miller, specialises in GIS related courses on Udemy. He has provided a coupon code APOYAR for any of his 12 courses that brings the price down to £9.99 in the UK. When you apply the code it says its available for the next 4 days....

I have linked to a page where you can see all 12 courses and browse for yourself.
Forget the price you first see ...click on any course you like and Apply the coupon code APOYAR manually in the right hand panel yourselves to get the £9.99 price

I know where to come now when I get stuck....
Looks a decent set of courses for the UK market with a suitable focus on open source GIS.
tut ...these courses are normally £9.99... thanks for posting! x
@pekoz1

Thanks, nice to see some specialist courses worth buying instead of the usual tripe, do you recommend any of these 12 as stand-out?

Don't fancy paying £120 for the 12 but could be persuaded to give the guy some money if you have a good recommendation?
@muppetrider

Unfortunately Im no GIS expert.(yet!) But im working my way through the 4 courses I bought slowly...Really depends on what you want to use the GIS for. As coastal said above QGIS is an open source but well respected GIS application thats free to download and use so I started there .....but my main motivation to learn GIS was incorporating GIS data into web maps and apps.

So personally I went

udemy.com/cou…ls/ for the QGIS application and

udemy.com/cou…ns/ to get the web side.

(The web programming course isnt necessarily going to be the best overall course on web technologies i.e. html / css/ javascript etc but youre doing it because its one of the few that approaches from the gis angle ...if that makes sense)

Id probably stop there and see if youre interested before going any further.

As you say its too easy to get swamped by the free courses....I blame @Martianman / @matwalaboy/ @antdav for my lost childhood!

I now use 3 udemy accounts... 1 for the free but possibly not the best (i.e. cr*p), 1 for the good (and bought) and 1 in the middle...

Nice tactics!

I've done some preliminary research and seems like the different GIS technologies, especially proprietary, come and go, the software scene is like a minefield of hit and miss GIS technologies to invest your time .. GIS folk need to sort themselves out.. I see there's various groups to regulate efforts but I'd hate to be the one to string up 20 badly maintained APIs for this mess.

Great subject though and very useful to have at least a working background in for countless reasons.

Thanks again!

3 accounts lol
I did GIS for my mapping science degree 20 years ago and we were using Arc Info. Last time I checked it was still in use by some local authorities.
@muppetrider@jimmyn

The Arc Info product is now ArcGIS from ESRI ...and ESRI software is the proprietary end of the market with licence prices to match I believe! Not that I move in those circles....

The author has also got a youtube channel under the name of Mike Miller if its of any use :-
youtube.com/cha…eos

I need the 3 accounts because I was at the back of the queue for self discipline ....Im the master of going off at tangents. If I go into the free course account with over 100 courses I could be gone for days.....and thats after me being selective about what I add.

and Im sure Im not alone.... Hello my name is pekoz1 and Im an alcoholic HotUkDeal Udemy Course collector and I need help

Lol, you're in good company

All the truly creative minds are off on a dozen tangents, the way of the world my friend, a curse but a blessing, but wouldn't have it any other way
