Haven't purchased from them myself, but generally reviews are good. What happens when you unpin?

No idea, not pinned through anything you have done.

that depends if you are buying intelligently... same as everything ;)

Buying second hand helps, certainly, but not the same for everything. DSLRs for example won't hold their price for long, even if bought used.

thats true if you buy second hand as you did which is basically the same for everything

Nice find OP. I think it's worth noting, when you buy high quality glass like this, it will keep it's value better than more ordinary glass(providing it's well looked after). It's ironic, but you will save money, by spending more. For example, I recently sold a 21mm Zeiss Distagon which I bought used around 5 years ago. It sold for a few pounds less than what I paid for it, so I effectively rented a great lens for just a few quid. Please post if you find a good deal on Zeiss Otus 28/1.4 or Sigma Art 14/1.8!

There's quite a bit of context around it; Sony Zeiss lenses - made by Sony, with input from Zeiss (coatings, designs etc) Zeiss Batis - made by Zeiss, with AF technology licensed from Sony, to give native lens performance Zeiss Otus/Loxia - Zeiss lenses, just like they are for any mount There's obviously been a commercial agreement in place (Sony probably bunged them a load of cash to supplement their line up in the early days). Tamron/Sigma now see Sony E mount as commercial viable, as they've both just launched native lenses - the only reason why Zeiss seemingly have a 3rd party monopoly is because other parties held back to make sure they'll get an ROI from it.

Damn gutted I missed this! Emailed the vendor and they said this price was a Panasonic special promotion and is no longer available :( If anyone knows a way to get the same price please share!

Just wanted to say thanks for posting this! I did the same price match through John Lewis which went through fine. First prime lens, still learning how to use it effectively, main difference I noticed is the increased depth of field compared to the kit lens.

Has anyone experience of the new 25mm 1.7 ?? ~£150!

If you want to get really close (wildlife shots) then the Panasonic 100-300 is also great. Bit more expensive, though.

Fine if you are happy with a bigger camera and lenses, it depends what you want it for.

Apologies, you're right, was looking at a grey import without realising (although wrong to say no warranty / support, international warranty, which is better than nothing, though obviously not as good as a proper UK one).

as a long time photographer, I would say that for most people this is the best camera for your money. You could buy a cracking dslr/slt at this price but not a decent set of lenses, it almost certainly is not as portable. the RX100 series is the best compact you can get for your money.

Stick with what you’ve got. The A5100 is ideal for your intended usage. It’s small, almost pocketable (on my similar-sized NEX3n I took the strap off, put a wrist strap on one of the lugs, and it fits in a big coat pocket). Your A5100 has very good video capabilities also (and has clean hdmi out and XAVC codec, so that’s something to envy for owners of the NEX3n like mine, which doesn’t have those things). You’ve got a much bigger sensor than the RX100, and therefore to get such a wide aperture the lenses will be correspondingly bigger, but the PZ 16-50mm that comes with your kit is not too bad in terms of size / aperture / distortion / resolving power. Yours is a good camera, just as this one is also a good camera. Yours has a bigger battery, so more shooting. Stick with what you’ve got.

you are doing a great job of combating the common image problem of apple users.... main benefit is the focus speed really... apparently rx100IV is pretty fast as well though you are going to be spending a fair bit more on the other lenses ~4-500 i find i fairly often use longer zoom with my kids than the 50mm would allow which isn't an option with rx100

For you of course this is true...for anyone who has good photography skills no it won't....

where is fz1000 599 in uk? or do you mean slrhut which is grey import into the uk?

It's now £699 everywhere, before Sony's £50 cashback (Park Cameras, John Lewis, Curry's, etc). And FZ1000 is already £599 in the UK.

I think the price at UK Digital reflects the fall in US so don't expect to see much lower in UK until the cash back offer ends.

Good £75 saving if you don't mind a refurb. As it comes with a 12 month warranty should be OK.

Seems like they just cut the US price by $300 - hopefully this'll be reflected in the UK soon! If you're ok with a refurb, they're £650 from here

I was going to go for the sony 3N, however it proves difficult to hold due to its size and not touch screen I believe, nether the less they all ok. Arrived well packaged and everything new, no damages to box etc.. And the guy at the end of the phone was good, chat to him about some advantages and disadvantages of the mirror-less camera , they seem to know their stuff and not just push sale to u as they are family run business.

Yep your right, that's why I had a budget to work from. But no one can predict when to buy or not, so I guess, if u need it buy it if not then don't. That's my motto

5 years warranty - hot

This upgrade will be a vast improvement on a G1 - I upgraded from a G2 and noticed a huge difference. Low light performance is now excellent - regularly shoot at 6400 iso with very little graininess. Plus you can use any lenses you already have.

Not really, all cameras in the "G" line perform on a similar plane. You'll need to spend a lot more money to get anything that will show a worthwhile improvement in terms of low light performance, which is the weakness of m43 cameras and G series especially.

I went to Thailand with my 5n this year and it could not have been brighter out in the sun but I still managed to take good photos. But it's harder with manual focus then. Or a bit impossible.

Because of the excellent flip-up screen most of my pictures are taken at waist hight on my NEX-5n which eliminates the sun glare problem completely and also affords greater stability than holding at arms length.

Royals, I concur. There are defo trade offs.

Still...this a great camera...if want good pics that are far far better than a compact point and shoot but dont want the bulk or cost of a dslr then this us for you Despite my comments i use my nex3 more than my dslr at the mo...its a compromise

Inertia true but you may lose autofocus and is by putting those lens on..maybe an issue for some Achilles heel of ccs is that you arent looking down the lens Also you are reliant on a screen which is hopeless in bright sunlight or even worse on a ski slope

yeah they are selling it for more via amazon strangely - mine 'should' come monday. edit: came today

Hi, I ordered this on Wednesday from UK digital, within 5 minutes they'd emailed me the Sony cashback claim form, within 20 mins they'd sent me shipping info. Camera arrived yesterday (I paid for next day delivery), well packaged and perfect. All in all a great consumer experience, would definitely recommend. Worth noting that the retailer sells via amazon, when asking amazon to price match, I clicked on other sellers of the product and UK digital were there with high positive retailer scores.

How do you claim cashback on this?

Should be receiving mine tomorrow. Bought it Monday night at the £307 price. Great price !

Sony Nex-5N + 18-55mm Lens Black £346.95 delivered @ UK Digital

Very Good Camera for a very good price. Double this a year ago when released. I price matched £339 with John Lewis and Collected mine from in-store :).

I am pretty sold on getting one, to be honest and am thinking about the £449 package which is the SEL 1855mm and SEL 16F28mm Lens rather than the £589 package which is the SEL 18-55mm and SEL 55-210mm Lens. Is this clicking when in filming mode all but fixed now?

Totally agree with Toaster the 18-200 Sony lens is good but too expensive, there's an excellent Tamron 18-200 which is a little cheaper and lighter but seriously unless you need a huge telephoto forget the bridge camera, comparing image quality between the bridge and the NEX is like night and day. Any image from the next will be far far better. The NEX series really are as good as any sub £1K DSLR. Better if you get a high end lens... The handling takes some getting used to but once you know what you're doing you'll struggle to get a less than superb image. I like the 16mm (pancake) with the NEX 5N, (as the camera has the ability to corner correct and remove chromatic problems that the lens is notorious for) it also makes the camera very compact, and would definitely pay the extra for both lenses. Even if you don't like it you can eBay it for £100ish so it's worth the extra. I really wish I had the 16mm again, it's great for landscapes.

Many thanks for the response it does help me to get a better idea of things. What is the pancake lens like? Is it a pretty good general lens to use when out and about rather than the longer lens?

You wont get anywhere near a 20x zoom range lens for a NEX body, the 18-55 is a 3x zoom and the 55-210 is 3.8x zoom. The best you can do is the Sony 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS which is an 11x zoom but costs £600 and is huge. A compact like the Panasonic DMC-TZ30 has a zoom range of 20x (35mm equivalent of 24mm-480mm) Cameras like the Nex-5 are about having larger sensors with small bodies to give high image quality (especially in low light) in a compact package, but are not about the huge zoom range and convenience that bridge cameras offer. I wouldn't rush into buying one until you really know what it is that you require in a camera.

Still thinking about treating myself for my birthday and wondering if I should go for the double lens kit for £449. Is the pancake lens quite handy to have? I am not very clued up on zooms either and have a bridge camera at present with a 20x optical. I realise that these kind of lenses are very different but if someone could give me an idea of what lens is equivalent to a 20x optical so that I have some kind of reference to go from. Is the 18-55 similar or would I need the 55-210 kit?

damn, wish I hadnt seen this deal - now I'm seriously thinking of buying one! to OP: Would you say the GF3X is pocketable? it seems very small but probably still wouldn't fit into a jacket pocket:|

Here is a size comparison for those interested between this camera and others.

I have the Lowepro Apex 60 AW and it fits the camera with the compact x lens (or 20mm pancake) just fine. I doubt you can get any smaller!

Agreed, it would suite the standard zoom better. I also agree that the material is quite stiff which is a good thing when you need your camera protected.

Sorry to disagree but I think the Jimmy Bo 200 is (much) too big if all you want to do is keep the camera with the collapsible lens in there. I have it, and the GF3 (admittedly with the pancake lens) and just tried it to make sure and there's a lot of wasted space. I can even fit a GH1 (same size as a G2) with a pancake lens, or the GF3 with the normal 14-42 zoom in it. I like Crumpler bags (I have 4) but the material isn't very flexible so it can't really be squashed down either. Unfortunately I haven't got an alternative suggestion, yet, but I thought I'd give you a heads up
