UK's cheapest cordless lawnmower? £99.99 at Homebase!

In Homebase today looking at the clearance garden furniture (not much left but got a wooden side table for £4.93!) and spotted these cordless lawnmowers.

Ozito (Homebase/Bunnings own brand) 30cm (small), 18v.

Comes with 3Ah battery (interchangeable with other Ozito 18v cordless tools) and charger.

I'd have some concern about the power of this with just 18v but as it is a small size and has an efficient brushless motor it could be OK. It certainly appeared to be robustly made and has a solid grassbox rather than one of those half fabric ones. If it won't do the job it has to be returnable.

If you're tired of managing a cable (or can't easily access a socket) and have only a small lawn to cut this could be worth a try at this low price. Some other brands would charge you more than half the price for an 18v 3Ah Li-ion battery alone (Ozito Power-X-Change 2Ah is £30, 4Ah is £50 as individual items).

  • 30cm Cutting diameter
  • 30-70mm, 3 Position cutting height adjustment
  • 25L Grass catcher
  • Efficient brushless motor
  • 3Ah battery

If you need something cordless but larger with more power I'd suggest this one at Aldi while there's still some stock around:

Which Homebase store ?

This was in Solihull. I think it is a new item (hence not on their website yet) so probably is or soon will be in all stores and Bunnings too?

These were £229 on their website last time I checked. Admittedly late last year
5 year guarantee in case that helps

But was that the larger on in the link, which is now £249? I'd find it hard to believe they could get that much for this small one.

There have been 2 listings on Homebase over the last year. One for £249 for the lawn mower, 2x4ah bats and the grass trimmer, and they had a lawn mower and 2x4ah batteries on its own for £229 I remember.
The new one the op mentions seems to be a new cheaper model that uses one battery

If Homebase last that long.

I’d use a credit card after reading that

I know, yes, what I meant was that you were more concerned about your £99 lawnmower maybe going wrong, than people losing their jobs

I think you got my post mixed up with other people who mentioned alternatives or worrying rumour about Homebase. I really don’t want you to loose your job. I hope when all’s said and done my comments have encourage people to spend at Homebase rather than elsewhere.

Well I disagree.... he’s bought the lawnmower from the store which could go pop rather than walk on by like I would.

It would appear it's a £229 machine for £99.

It's the chance you take when nabbing a bargain.

Too many people on here want their cake and eat it, as we say up North.

I really don't think it's a £229 machine - but it looks like great value at £99.

It's a great find, really is
It’s on the website now
It’s £249 so hardly the cheapest! I’m looking at getting the Worx Mower and Strimmer twin set currently £169.99 in Argos.. has anyone got this?..

This is the correct link for anyone who’s interested. Bear in mind the following; it’s only got one 18v 3ah battery which takes 4 hours to charge. It has a 25L grass catcher. The blade is only 30cm wide. It only has 3 positions 30-70mm cut..

No, it's £99.99 - as per the correct link you kindly provided.
One purchased today from the Telford store, marked up at £99.99 but used the 15% discount so works out at £85. Looked a bit small in store but should be ok for our lawn and looking forward to not having the hassle of a cord!!! Will post a mini review when I use it over the next couple of days.
I also bought this today. £84.99 with that 15% discount voucher. My flymo hover compact 330 packed up and didn’t fancy repairing it again. Went into Homebase with the vouchers intending to buy the 2x4ah 18v model for £245 but had a little rethink given the huge cost difference. Plus the lawn isn’t big, I would estimate something like 16ft by 35ft rectangle.
So much easier going round the garden in a straight line with this light little thing compare to the sweaty wrestling I had on my hands with the (not at all) hover mower

I've just noticed that the batteries for these appear to be the same as the Einhell Power X Change ones at Toolstation, Argos and elsewhere, so probably compatible with a whole range of their tools as well as the Ozito ones. Needs confirming but very handy if so!

I can confirm. I have a range of 18v power x change kit from ozito and einhell for midrange home diy
How many minutes of lawn mowing do you get from a single full charge?
Would hate to get through half way down the garden and have to wait another 4 hours for recharge

Not stated as far as I can see and it would be enormously variable anyway dependant on grass length, temperature, number of times stopped and restarted, etc. Brushless motor is very efficient however. Best thing is to have a spare, charged battery to hand.

Unfortunately no. WORX, Guild and Erbauer use the same as each other but it's not the same as Ozito and Einhell.

There's an opportunity here for the EU or even our own government to act on the consumer's behalf and reduce unnecessary waste by obliging some standardisation on this stuff. Camera batteries too.

Although I have this model I can’t answer that fully until the next time I mow the lawn. The product is pitched towards small lawns and that’s it only has one 18v battery. There’s no need for more in this category. I can tell you the following though: my lawn is about 16ft by 35ft rectangle. The grass was long because I last mowed it in the autumn. After unpacking the lawn mower I noticed some charge in the 3ah battery so decided to give it a test without charging it first. I set the lawn mower on the highest of the three height settings and managed to complete the whole lawn. I then grabbed a 2ah I already have that indicated fully charged, (though I haven’t used it since November) and completed the lawn with the mower on medium height setting. I then set the mower to its lowest setting to cut the grass shorter and I managed to complete the lawn before that 2am battery died on me. My guess is the 3ah battery is good for 3 goes around a lawn my size

That's helpful. Any other comments? Did it do a good job?

Well I don’t think much of the build quality, plasticy, like a £45 corded let’s say. and the grass collection box was a bit of a pain to put together.
On balance, I prefer it to my now broken flymo hover compact 330 (HC330); it’s easier with this wheeled one going continually forward rather than pushing the hover mower (which didn’t hover even without grass in the box) forward and back/side to side. A lot easier.

But hey, Ozito are standing by this for 5 years and that helped make my mind up.
Having einhell cordless diy power tools and Ozito cordless garden tools was another factor. All shared batteries and I have the fast chargers.
I have the cordless pole hedge trimmer, pole chain pruner head for that - both excellent, and the cordless grass strimmer, and the cordless blower - which isn’t that powerful so you don’t save any time compared to just raking stuff from grass (ok for sheparding grass / cuttings off the patio).

My take is if you have a small lawn this brushless cordless mower with only one 18v battery should do the trick. It looks like it won’t take rough treatment. But it’s cheap. Having said that, it’s got a 5 year warranty from Ozito, even though it’s made by einhell.
