Usually what happens is the first batch will have e.g. 7.1 on it as they have manufacturing targets to meet, then they switch over to e.g. 8.1 and issue an OTA for the ones that went out as 7.1. If that makes sense.
Honestly with so many phones around this price point or less with a snapdragon processor, I’m not sure why you’d choose a mediatek over that.

It's not just a processor it's a SoC, I prefer MediaTek as I've found them more stable (GPS, Wifi etc.) it's not just about the CPU. Also you can tweak them with MTK Engineer Mode.

One of the main reasons would be, that the 6863t fully supports dual LTE with VoLTE on both sims at the same time, so has active dual sim standby, instead of what nearly all others have [mainly snapdragons] which is 1 at a time LTE service + 2g/3g when LTE is not being used eg dual standby

Think the oppo5 has this facility as well, there are also a few energy#power advantaged of this chipset.

If this was £199 [which it will be with a pinch of luck in Jan sales!] it would fly away, but still a very good intro price to kick thinks off for a 3#4 day standby phone!

Ah, but can it make a call?
Big and heavy but should last a long time. Shipping not due to mid Jam, and it's Gearbest so add another couple of weeks so maybe get it end if Feb.... Hopefully Xiaomi 5Plus will be out by then

Nice educated post looking at the benefits of the new Helio P23 SoC, rather than jumping on the 'Mediatek are crap' bandwagon...

I've had loads of phones, Snapdragon, Mediatek, Kirin and Exynos. Basic (non Helio) Mediatek phones have been a bit crap but these things need to be evaluated on their own merits, and the Helio P23 does look interesting. The new Mali-G71 GPU also looks good.

Actually in terms of spec I'd potentially pick the Vernee X up over this based on price?

kinda jealous of that battery. makes my moto g4 play's 2800mah look tiny.
Sub £200 and I'm in
I had the power 1 and my 3 year old decided to put it in the bath.
It was a decent phone and the battery was awesome.
It was heavy but worth it to not worry about carrying a battery pack around all day.
I really miss the battery life
In an effort to get gearbest to sort issues some info for everyone.
I have bought lots of stuff from them and generally good, but when it goes wrong its a mountain to climb.

However recent android box went wrong. First remote then box. Gearbest customer service woes started.
Offered a couple of quid refund and no joy, or even understanding of English through gearbest ticket system, next to useless.
Escalated to paypal, eventually full offer of refund.
Eventually through paypal offered a UK return address for info (gearbest ticket system contradicted what they were saying through paypal)

They then repeatedly refused delivery from courier. One could interpret this as a device to 'pretend' to offer refund then refuse to accept the returned goods. No goods return=no refund to pay.
Only when I refused final paltry offer from through paypal, (after they had previously offered full refund) did the return that mysteriously had been repeatedly rejected, was now accepted, on the day Paypal ruled in my favour for full return of money.
coincidence?
doubtful.

So if everyone uses paypal for payment and escalation, keeps full records, they will compel gearbest to fully refund. If everyone does this then maybe gearbest will sort it properly.
Hope this helps.

I've also had no issues before but as you say, use PayPal and they've got your back if anything goes wrong.
